Do you not have a premier PayPal account then, how do you accept card payments?Ah o.k. - I've just tried to update my listing to 'require immediate payment' and , as before, it won't let me.
It comes back with
"you must have a premier or business paypal account to require immediate payment"
I also noticed that when you tick the immediate payment box all other methods of payment become greyed outI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Didn't know i needed one . This is the first time I've had a problem ( if you can call no immediate payments a problem)
Bit confused by 'card payments' - people pay by paypal and it appears in my paypal account. Thought that was how it worked0 -
Shock horror I have received a message and payment from the buyer!! Now my only concern is that they have asked to collect which is fine but their messages keep saying 'providing I am happy with the phone' which seems to suggest to me that they don't realise they have paid for the item and the transaction is complete. The phone is exactly as described, in fact I probably over exaggerated any marks in the listing just to be on the safe side.
I just worry now that they don't understand the process of buying on eBay and I so don't want to end up having to refund and get my first neg after being so honest!! Maybe I am worrying about nothing.
Also sorry for the questions but they have paid in full inc postage costs. If they come and collect can I easily refund the postage costs to them?
Thanks everyone!0 -
What sort of phone is it? If it's a high value phone ie iPhone, a Samsung s3 or Note etc I would consider either refunding them and saying cash on collection or sending it to them Special Delivery.
There is a well known Paypal chargeback scam where the buyer pays by Paypal collects and then does a chargeback and because you can't prove delivery Paypal will side with the buyer and you will loose both the money and phone.
There is a thread on here where someone lost his £1000 Macbook Pro in the same way.

No no and thrice no. Unless this is a cheap throw away phone do not let buyer collect unless they will agree to swap their papal payment for cash.
Read up on your requirement for seller protection and in particular the need for fully tracked delivery to the PayPal address. The postage sticky thread is a good place to start and then google 'PayPal on collection scam'I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thank you so much for that, I would never have known! God this is all such hard work!! It is a high value phone so I have messaged them again to say I will post special delivery tomorrow. At least then I can prove they have received it. Can they still make a chargeback even if it is posted then? Thanks.0

The sticky postage thread explains most of it.
Even if you track to their address they can still do a SNAD even if they can't do an INR so just make sure that as suggested you keep full details of the phone.
A bank chargeback would also still be technically possible, so keep your proof of posting *and* tracking details for at least 180 days.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Back again with more questions! This is all starting to seem very dodgy now. I messaged buyer last night saying that I wasn't happy for collection as payment had been made via PayPal so would post today by special delivery.
Buyer has messaged back saying no as they want to look at the phone and have asked me to refund the payment. Alarm bells are ringing as buyer lives over 300 miles away so seems strange that they want to collect but when I logged into PayPal the payment had been placed on hold by PayPal due to suspicious activity on their account. Now I have responded to this to say I have not posted the item and would like to refund the buyer. However this is now showing as being reviewed by PayPal.
I am worrying really as the buyer is pushing to collect this morning but I don't want them coming to my house whilst I am alone with my children so have told them that this evening is the only option as my husband will be here.
Just all seems very dodgy, just wish i could cancel the sale now! I advertised on gumtree prior to eBay and Sod's law had two calls and one text last night asking if the phone was still available! Ahh!0 -
It is looking quite obviously like a scam now, I would absolutely not go ahead with this.
Email [STRIKE]scammer[/STRIKE] buyer and tell them under no circumstances can they collect, do not even give them the option of this evening. You need to let them know that you know they are trying to scam.
Tell them that paypal are holding the money and that you have been advised not to go ahead and will therefore ask paypal to make a refund when they have completed their investigation.
Personally I would phone ebay and explain this is a scam and get them to assist with a mutual to recover your fees ASAP. Then sell to your Gumtree buyer.
I think you may well have had an extremely lucky escape here, thank heavens you started this thread on MSE.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thank god for this site! So glad I posted here. I contacted eBay and they agreed that it seemed suspicious and asked me to create a cancel transaction case which I did. Within about 30 minutes I had an email saying that the buyer has agreed to cancel the transaction so I won't have to pay any fees. I have refunded the money via PayPal and although it still shows as pending I can see that it has gone from my balance.
Lucky escape for me there with almost losing £200! Thanks so much everyone, I would never have known what to do without your advice! Much appreciated.0
