Options
Hi all,

I am currently with SevenTrent Water paying direct debit of 55.45 per month for 12 months which comes up to 665 per year. I am paying for unlimited water usage and sewer usage. Am I paying too much??

    Welcome to the forum.

By 'too much' do you mean 'overcharged'?

Almost certainly getting a meter would work out cheaper(unless you have loads of people in property)

If it doesn't work out cheaper then you can revert to your current charging method within 12 months.

Post more details of your bill - including Rateable Value.
  • Yes i mean over charged, my bill is as followed...

    From April 2012- March 2013

    Rateable value - £222.00

    Water supply - 92.90 ( Pence per £ or RV) £206.23
Used water and surface water drainage - 85.86( Pence per £ or RV) £190.60

    Balance brought forward - £46.74
    Total amount - £443.57

You are in Charging Zone 8.

If you look a your payment schedule I suspect that you are only paying 8 payments of £55.45 this financial year.(April 2012 to March 2013)

You are paying for Surface Water Drainage(SWD) for which you may be able to claim a refund. If your surface water(from gutters etc) goes into a soakaway you can claim relief from that payment. which in your case would save £69.74pa.

The ST website tells you how to claim.

With a RV of £220 a meter could be cheaper - but it depends how many people in your house.
  • Theres only two of us in the household. I think ill give the meter a go and see how it goes. Thanks for your co operation, much appreciated.

Still find out about surface water drainage. Even metered you can still get a reduction - depends on the type of property - flat/terraced, seme or detatched.

With two people, and average consumption, you should save around £100 pa

That looks ok...It's actually £33 a month. On a water meter you could save a little about £8 per month but if your household size grows it will cost more and you can't switch back...something to consider.

i agree with you & yes you can save some amount, but totally depends on household size
  • We have a household of 5 and only pay £26 per month on a meter... It does make you think about how much you use! (Thames Water area...)

How much water do you use?

£26 a month with Thames Water would be an annual bill of £312 less standing charges of £28 and £52 means you spent £232 on water and at £1.8736 per cubic metre means you used 124 cubic metres per year divided by 5 people is 25 cubic metres per person per year divided by 365 is 68 litres per day. That is not much. The average water usage is closer to 150 litres per person per day.
