Seller is surcharging for PayPal- reporting them

I normally state on ebay that I do not charge for paypal because its more convenient for me than having to drive to the bank to deposit a cheque. However, if I am selling an expensive item then I usually ask for a split fee ie 2% ea but then I don't load the posting and packaging either. For example I sent off an item today which I charged £1.50 for postage and the postage before packing was £1.40. I didn't realise though that we were not allowed to ask for shared costs.
The way I see it as a seller and a buyer is that its more convenient for me to pay that way and receive payment that way and I would be happy to pay 2% towards the cost.
Otherwise its sometimes not worthwhile selling things. I sold some school dresses in as new condition. I started the price at 99p which has cost me 15p to list, then there will be the end price fee. The dress sold for 99p, so I will be lucky to come away breaking even after listing fee, ending fee and paypal fee.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far

If you are on ebay to make money how is asking your buyers to pay a premium going to help? All you will do is drive those buyers into buying from someone else.
If a seller has a real problem with paypal as I know many do then be honest about it and remove it as an option. That way you comply with the ebay terms and conditions and don't run any risk of getting your auctions pulled. If however a seller realises there is a benefit in accepting paypal then that seller needs to accept the charges.

The benefit in accepting PayPal is you don't have to make your way to the bank and queue up fro 30 mins to pay a £2 cheque in!
I don't sell expensive items on ebay - if I did I would probably not use PayPal as an option, but alternatives like Cheques, Bankers Drafts or Direct transfers. These would near to "clear" before goos were sent.
How I work on ebay is things I sell and get paid for goes into a fund for buying things from ebay I want! Paypal payments received are subsequentlt spent and this is very convienent to me.0 -

Lol. Me too, and I've been on ebay for years!
I must admit, I no longer sell stuff as there are so many problems associated with it (ebay doubled my monthly invoice once (they finally admitted it was an error after 4 months of emails) and I ended up getting chased by debt collectors!!)0 -
Their Debt Collectors are pretty inefficient and unprofessional - Interim Justitia - They always call you on a private number first to confirm your there, then hang up, then call you again and ask for your address - just flip it on them and say can I have your address please, they 90% of the time say no and if they do say yes ask for the agent's home address - really pisses them off and it's pretty funny - I am mad at them cause they tried to say I owed them money even though my account was suspended after three non paying bidder strikes - I said I am not going to pay for something that doesn't work and you DON'T EVEN HAVE TO PAY THE DEBT COLLECTORS - as much as they insist you do you can STILL pay EBay with the extra 20% tacked on by the collectors, just so you know.0

I really can't see the fairness in charging a buyer for your paypal fees when you sell them something. After all, if you placed an ad in the paper and put at the end "add 4% onto price to cover the cost of my advert", how many people would want to buy? Charging for paypal is the same thing. It is a charge for the seller NOT the buyer!
I buy and sell on Ebay so why should I pay Paypal fees when I buy AND sell something just because some people are charging when they shouldn't be?0 -

Because its not just a convenience to the seller its also a convenience to the buyer, their payment is received immediately and so their item can be shipped straight out. Thats why it seems fair to me to split the cost, if the buyer does not want to share the cost then they can pay by cheque, however, how pleased would they be if you said that you weren't going to post the item until the cheque had cleared and I don't just mean 3 days, a cheque can still be bounced after 20 days.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far
