It would be less HB £53 and something pence compaired to £68 I get now and yes a saving for me as a cheaper place to run although I don't use heating plenty of clothes and a blanket is enough for me.

You seem very reluctant to even comment on working. :( If you love your current place and area so much, I'm really surprised that you wouldn't consider a few hours work a week. Were I in your position, I would welcome the opportunity to find a way to stay in a beloved place, that must hopld lots of happy memories for you.

When you posted earlier about staying in a house with lots of men, you mentioned that you would either stay in your room, or be out. I know that you aren't retired yet, so are you actually working now?

Have you tried looking in local paper or Gumtree there are often people looking for a lodger as they either need the money to help with mortgage or someone enjoys the company of another person in their home.

I do hope you manage to get some place soon as it must be a worry for you.
Thank-you my IT skills are very basic hit and miss most the time Gumtree yes I have heard of that will have a look. The most worry is when you love where you live and are having to jump into the unknown especially when you no longer have your partner for support which at times like this I need.

Well that's why I suggested a job! And of course it must be awful without your partner for support, but surely he wouldn't want to think of you worrying like this and leaving somewhere you love?

Merry Christmas I was waiting for you to come along I knew you wouldn't be able to resist even though I'm trying to save the tax-payer money by going into cheaper accommodation it will still never be enough for some.

You might have noticed that I came along some time ago and gave you some useful advice about claiming your pension.;)

If you love your current accommodation so much, surely working for a few hours a week to enable you to stay there would be a good thing to do?

Can you ask people in the groups you help if they maybe know of someone looking for a lodger.

I do understand how worrying this is for you and can only hope that something suitable comes along very quickly.

Take care and PM me if you wish to have a chat about your situation, I am a good listener :D

Well that all sounds great and very altruistic, :A and you're meeting people as well. But I can't see why you can't devote a few hours to paid employment, which would enable you to stay in a home, and area, that you love.

I can't think of any other advice to give you, so I hope it all works out for you, and I wish you a Happy New Year.

You are so kind thank-you. I'm going to do an outside reccy of some properties to-day as my son is here with the car, you can tell alot by the windows and the garden before I get to look in the inside. Also the surrounding area and I'm not to shy to knock on either side to ask about the area.

Just wanted to say op is not an oap. They are of working age and under the age of both my parents who work.

Not distracting from their claim - but they are not of oap age just yet so age concern etc wont get involved.

I get where you are coming from - but actually to a woman of 60 we will usually be regarding ourselves as being retirement age (even if we have had to carry on working). We have spent most of our lives knowing that we will regard ourselves as retirement age as soon as we have our 60th birthday. I feel sorry for OP because she is in this situation and obviously needs her State Pension to live okay and can't have it just because the goalposts were changed.

I believe AgeUK do help all pensioners (ie not just those that have passed their State Pension Age) and in fact will also help people between 55-59 if my memory is correct.

So - to the OP - I do hope you manage to solve this problem you have been landed with by that "goalpost shifting" by the look of it. Fingers crossed for somewhere decent to live for you soon.

EDIT: Actually, in your position, I would be asking even those landlords who don't take claimants for a place to rent. I would be saying that I wasnt a claimant - I was retirement age and had duly retired, but was having problems because I hadn't reached my revised State Pension Age yet. I would do that in order to make it plain that I wasn't going to conform to any claimant stereotypes and had reached the "age of responsibility" iyswim. Yes - I know that some/all? of your income comes from a "working age" benefit payable to "claimants" - but I cant help feeling that a woman of 60 plus doesnt quite come into the claimant/working age category nevertheless...even if the income is called "benefit", rather than being called "pension".

Its worth looking into that post above and see whether "bedroom tax" does get charged to those of retirement age or no.
