What a sexist thing to say! Also why would your safety be at risk because there are no other women in the house? If you have your own room presumably it would have a lock on the door.

The crime statistics look equally sexist.

Is there any chance of your qualifying for a one bedroom council or housing association property which might have a rent at or close to the LHA?
Yes I am on them no much choice can only bid for 2 a week and someone always gets in front of me maybe they have disabilities or been waiting longer no one tells you just say you have been unsuccessful.

I see from your previous thread that taking in a lodger is not a possibility.

Given your difficulties have you tried exploring the possibility of becoming someone else's lodger? Do you know anyone who has a spare room?

You would still be eligible for HB in this situation (shared house rate)although your 'landlord' would probably have to provide a lodger's agreement or write a letter confirming your rent.

This might be better option than sharing with lots of strangers.
No not a present, that's why I'm running out of options and have decided on the shared accommodation route.

Have you explained your current circs regarding affordability to them?

Yes they know all my circumstances but under the circumstances we all have our problems and I have no priorities meaning health problems that would help, don't think I worded that quite right.

Health issues wouldn't be the only priority. Affordability may well be one that applies to you. From what you have said, social housing allocation in your area is done via CBL. Somewhere on their website will be their allocations policy which will list ALL the priorities available. It may be worth taking the time to read through this document.

I was thinking if I get out of here which has become a millstone around my neck and get into shared accommodation then I might become more of a priority for SH or HA or maybe I'm wrong as I would still have a roof over my head and would really need tobe homeless. They know my financial state my weekly income does not even cover 4/5ths of my weekly rent.

Even being homeless is no longer a guarantee of Social Housing. They can now discharge that duty into private rent, which puts you back at square one. Have a read of their allocations policy, particularly the priority bandings, then have another chat with them from an informed position. It's surprising how quickly they change their tune when challenged by the informed.

Can you not live with your adult child? I don't like the idea of a pensioner living alone with males and I don't care if I sound sexist.
There must be some help available for you , have you contacted age concern?
I hope you find the help you need soon.
My daughter lives with her fiancee and his family and my sons house is full and I mean full. Thank-you Angelic for your concern, yes been to age concern they say more and more are falling into the poverty-trap but without more resources they are tied. They said people's families should become more involved and pick up the services that can no longer cope.
  • Over the coming year there are going to be more and more people with these problems, I honestly can see families and OAP's becoming homeless, because they just will not be able to make up the shortfall in rent, and now people who have not, up until now had to pay council tax, will have to find at least 10% of the council tax bill, if they can not afford the electricity, gas, food and the shortage of the LHA and there rent, they sure as hell, will not be able to pay the council tax. Council Tax non payment is the only debt you can be taken to court for by the authorities, the courts are going to find themselves full up with women and OAP's waiting to be tried for non payment of the TV license and council tax. Now they are going to be busy. It makes you sick .
