mobile contract phone

Hi everyone - just need to ask a very basic question - to most - but like a minefield for me...I have a contract phone with orange, which I have had for about 15 months, I now wish to PAYG. I have written to Orange to cancel - not had a reply yet, and applied and recieved a new SIM for free texts (depending on what credit you put on each month). My daughter tells me that I wont be able to use it until I UNLOCK my phone - I have read Martins article and am prepared to have a go at 'unlocking step-by-step'. The bit that throws me is it says to put in a new SIM from a different network. But mines from the SAME network - so do I still follow the instructions, putting in my new orange SIM?? Sorry to be long winded, but I am a complete novice.

Firstly if the new pay as you go sim is on orange and yuou have been using a contracty orange sim in the phone then the phone will not need unlocking. The pay as you go sim will have to be registered before it will work in the phone though. If it is a different sim than orange then you phone may need unlocking. If you tell me the model of the phone I might be able to help you unlock it.

If you're not changing network then you shouldn't need to unlock your phone - just put the SIM in and it should work.
