OP - I assume you've also decided to quit the private school?
If not, £1800 mortgage + £1800 school fees = £3600. Your income is £4300. How will you cope on £700 for everything else? It just isn't doable, especially not with £30k+ of debts you'll have left.LBM:1/1/12Debts @ LBM:£43,546  Debts now: £9,486  78% PAIDFound YNAB 1/2/14 - the best thing EVER!0 -
Yes but then she won't be able to manage the build project, plus keep the children in private school which they clearly must do to maintain their status in the area they live. £40k of debt still to deal with. Good luckFull time working mum to 2 boys

You may have less debts OP, but you still haven't changed your way of thinking and you're losing a wage. I hope everything works out but I have a feeling you'll end up back at square one.0

The OP obviously still hasn't had their LBM. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them back on this board in a year's time but without all the options they have at the moment to get out of this mess....It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0

I wonder if the person gifting 50K knows its going towards debt repayment ? Miind you though if you can gift 50K you probably don't care.
Ah well I am sure we'll get an update in a year or two when they are back.0 -
Good luck NMD. I agree with everyone else - you are still pretty clueless when it comes to your debt but I hope it all works out for you.0

How is Lord Grantham? And dear Cora?
I hope Lady Mary is well after the sudden loss of Matthew. Coming so suddenly after losing Sybil must have been a terrible shock to the family.
I can't wait to see the renovated Downton in the new series.

What a bizarre turn of events.
I am utterly baffled.
If this is genuine, I just can't understand how the OP thinks this 'solution' will work out.DFBX2013: 021 :j seriousDFW £0 [STRIKE] £3,374[/STRIKE] 100% Paid off

nomoredebtplease, I started to wonder if your situation is real after your last post but as I was thinking about you last few days I will post my thoughts anyway.
How big is your house? Can you rent a room or two? That will give some income towards debt reducing.
Does your wife have any gold or diamond jewellery? Wedding ring and engagement ring are priceless but everything else could sell and go towards debt repayment?
Have you got a collection of dvds and cds, maybe dozens or hundreds of them which are just there on the shelf but you are too busy to watch them? Can you sell them on amazon or ebay?
Have you got any rare and specialists books? They could sell well?
Have you got any collection of anything to sell (stamps, pictures, rifles, china, golf clubs)?
Do you have more than two laptops? Excess could go. Kids could borrow yours or wife's laptop.
How big is your garden? Can you do a green house, plant potatoes, peppers, beans, etc, and herbs in the pots? This can be fun and educational for your kids and may reduce some food cost.
Have you checked if PPI were ever missold to you and made enquiries with companies?
Are your clothes of decent brands and in good condition. Can you leave several well matched items for each season and each formal and informal occasion and sell the rest?
Like many people who posted on this thread before I feel that you risk the future of your kids by not taking them out of private school now.
I cannot see how losing one income out of two will help you out. My opinion is at the moment you cannot lose 2nd income and you cannot afford those school fees.
Maximum in 5 years time or sooner you could be in much better position financially and emotionaly if repayed the debt. You would afford the fees easily.
I cannot see the tragedy of kids going to the local school a few years. Surely, local school with half-million worth properties around it is not that bad.
When the kids are older you could ask them if they are willing to private school. Maybe they are not bothered and you are doing all this sacrifice!
They are probably too young to ask now but when they are older and know alternatives they may be able to choose.0
