Main dealer parts usually are generic parts re-boxed as they dont make the parts themselves, they source them from generic part makers.
A bit of a myth that they have some huge factory somewhere making all the bits themselves.
    Be happy...;)

Please double check what you're getting for the £115 - there is no way on earth it's the same service and the parts difference isn't £300!

I stand to be corrected, but at 40k, most Toyotas are due extra filters - air & fuel, plus possibly a brake fluid change - it's a major service AFAIK. I just can't see how this can be done for £115 even using generic parts?

Double check and check your handbook/service book to see what's due on this service - £115 sounds like an oil change and a once over to me, even if the MOT is free?

it was really wierd when I was asking her. i asked her to double check the price difference but she acted like i was an inconvenience to her.
i really feel like going elsewhere but need to get my window checked for the known fault and i dont have time to got o 2 different places. i might call up another branch and ask the price...

    Found this - http://www.toyota.co.uk/cgi-bin/toyota/bv/generic_editorial.jsp?navRoot=toyota_1024_root&fullwidth=true&noLeftMenu=true&forceText=%3Cnone%3E&edname=Owners-Service-Servicing&id=Owners-Service-Servicing&zone=Zone+Ownership&sr=Mall#fullplus_details

Click on 'more' and it tells you what is done at the service. I'd expect the dealer to be able to tell what is due at 40k though! You'll notice that most of the items say 'check' - I'd expect the bill to increase when they've 'checked' it and decided it needs replacing...

Funny thing is, even the Full Service + is cheaper than what they've quoted you (unless they're already including the cost to replace the various filters)? Ask if they do the fixed price servicing at that branch?

    It shouldn't be should it?

Toyota make the car and decide what needs to be done at what mileage. The dealers have access to this information, but somehow shroud it all in mystery so the poor customer doesn't know whether they're being over-charged, or risk under-servicing their car! You might gather this is a pet peeve of mine

I'm not back at work until the new Year or I'd look it up for you.

Try asking them what's due at 40k and get a price for that? I'm sure the service book will have this info somewhere too if you have it available.
  • How old is the car?

Does it have a full Toyota main dealer history? Do you want to maintain this? May be useful come resale time.
