Hi,
I was due my Carers Allowence on Christmas eve - and they paid it on the 21st.
Even though everywhere said - its a normal day - so will be paid on xmas eve.
So because of that I thought as new years eve was also a normal day according to everything - it would also be paid early this week as well.
---
It was not
Now im in a mess as I owe money out today and its the weekend tomorrow.
---
Is there anything I can do about this - if they had just put when the real dates were instead of just changing them all the time I wouldn't be in trouble now
Thank you in advance

Unfortunatly there is nothing you can do about this. The Job Centre was closed on christmas eve thefore payments were made early mine included, i know its not easy as money has to last longer.0

Wait until the normal date it was due to be paid - you may have been lucky if the money hit your account before the due date.
I know loads of people getting benefit money in the bank on a Saturday when it should be paid on the Monday and they are the first complaining when it does not go in early.
Can someone lend you the money, it's only a few days before you get paid again!
So not much you can do.0 -
as long as you got the cash i cant see the problem...am i missing something ?onwards and upwards0

Where is "everywhere"? The correct information is on the govt website (and has not been changed):
https://www.gov.uk/how-to-have-your-benefits-paid
Benefit payment due date Actual payment/receipt date
24 December 2012 21 December 2012
25 December 2012 (Christmas Day) 21 December 2012
26 December 2012 (Boxing Day) 21 December 2012
1 January 2013 (New Year’s Day) 31 December 2012
2 January 2013 (Scotland only) 31 December 2012
You had no reason to expect the NYE payment early, you have no one to blame but yourself.0 -
The gov website shows that benefits due Christmas Eve would be paid in early, but not on New Years Eve..
The money doesn't need to last longer, if you had left it and not touched it until Christmas Eve, it would be the same amount of time between.
I know this isn't helpful now, but the same happens every year. Maybe see if family/friends can loan you the money until it is paid in.0 -
Both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are normal working days.
But on Christmas Eve banks close early and there is a rush in the shops, so the DWP has decided to pay benefits due on 24, 25 and 26 December one day earlier (this year there happens to be an additional weekend in-between). I remember a few years ago there was an outcry when pensioners (who usually get paid on Monday) were to get their payment on Christmas Eve.
To pay Christmas Eve benefits earlier is a concession that does not apply to New Year’s Eve. So you get your money the day it is due.0 -
well they could have just said that on their website.
It took you all of a few seconds to type...
"Christmas Eve was a concession that does not apply to new years eve"
It took them all year to write their pages - and still couldn't get it across simply like that.
very angry with them.
And had to borrow it off Wonga
thanks everyone - and job center plus if your reading - thanks for not just nothing - but being worse than that.

I looked up the benefits we get-tax credits and child benefit on the hmrc website and it clearly stated the exact dates things would be paid. The TC due on the 27th were, as they said paid on the 24th and our child ben due on Mon went in today, again exactly when they said. So some benefits are different to the above, but it appears they all had the info available online to be able to confirm this.
We knew that the tax credits we used "early"on xmas eve meant we had to go longer before the next payment, but as OH is self employed we stock up on things like food etc when he gets jobs for the times things are quieter and we had planned things out for xmas anyway.
Unfortunately you made an assumption that was wrong.
When you say money is "owed" is it something you promised to pay back or make a payment on? If so you can explain to the person concerned or in the case of a credit card pay asap and hope it clears quick enough to avoid a charge-at most around £12 ish I think.
If its a direct debit you could appeal to the bank for a short term overdraft or ask that the payment be manually allowed through-pushing you into an "unauthorised" overdraft and you will stand the fee-most banks charge around £5-£6 for this but it depends on the bank.
Sorry I hope you got it sorted.
