When I didn't have a watering can, I punched some holes into the lid of a plastic milk bottle and used that.

I've also cut up milk bottles to make plant labels and scoops.

Chipped mugs become pen/crochet hook/toothbrush holders.

I made a foot stool once out of a stack of magazines tied with string, topped with a cushion pad and covered in a scrap of fabric which I stuck to the bottom with masking tape!

My Nan used to use the inner bag from cereal packets to cut circles from to cover jam instead of using cellophane.

I've recycled tons of stuff over the years but can't think of any more atm.

  • Farmfoods are selling instant noodles in plastic packs of 10 for £1.60 - the plastic containers are brilliant propagators and fit nicely on a windowsill.

Saw this in friends garden…redundant swing set frame, minus swings, covered in chicken wire as a run for the chickens, with a door made out of wooden pallets and chicken wire at one end! Brilliant.

I use a single wire bed frame propped up, for the runner beans.

The silver pie tray can be useful. I wash mine and bake flans in them for picnics and sc holidays. Disposable so can bin the rubbish, no need to bring home again. Good for freezer.

  • When doing messy kitchen jobs (making cakes, peeling potatoes etc.) I use old newspaper to lay over the counters. Clearing up is easy - just roll up the newspaper and mess and throw away.
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!
