I keep a bit of the wire you use to hang net curtains,in the fridge door. When the drain hole gets gooey,I poke the end down and waggle it about as it is flexible enough to clear the block without damaging anything.
Keep the egg box bases from those trays of eggs and use to line the bottom of the compost caddy. It catches any wetness which keeps the caddy cleaner .0 -
Some great ideas there! I use old toothbrushes for cleaning but keep them in the airing cupboard so they dont get used for teeth again by accident. The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0

I use non-stick scourers to clean my bathroom - much cheaper than the bathroom sponges that you can get.
I also use an upright kitchen roll holder to store my scrunchies, hair bobbles, etc.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -

I use a cotton bud for that. Are you sure there's nothing electrical you can catch with that wire?I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I use the end of my potato peeler as a screw driver.0

An occasional boyfriend hoovering the stairs while I write ....
Where would one procure an occassional boyfriend from? Sounds very suited to my requirements!Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Gettingtherequickly wrote: »Does this work really well? I have an old bath which is stained and it annoys me as it always looks as if it is dirty:(
It really does work but it is abrasive and I only risked it because I was about to replace it as it looked awful.
It does take off the stain but the enamel coating was already damaged so if it got to the stage that the iron showed through it would then need replacing.
I moved in here 3 years ago and it is still ok for me and I have saved the inital replacement cost of £300 so am happy to keep doing it.Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.0 -
Surgical spirit - use for cleaning sticky marks off glass and mirrors. As a toner/cleanser in the bathroom if you have run out of the more expensive stuff (can't do anything about the smell though!). Also mixed with a few drops of food colouring can be used to colour pasta/rice/sand for childrens art projects.0

Starting a new post about recycling.
Items that would have been thrown away that you have found a different use for.
I reuse thin card from food boxes - I cut strips for lists. Yesterday I cut out some card Easter eggs and drew patterns for a visiting young child to colour in.
I am using food tubs for growing seeds in. Drawer spacers, take away food containers for gifts (filled).
I sewed some old sheets into cushion covers, zipped bags and made a new peg bag.
What do other MSE members recycle? The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0
