We used to buy the Flexi-joint for cats for our old boy.
I think they do something similar for dogs.
The tablets were palatable so not a problem to give.
I will second this product, my old dog has been on these for a couple of years now, when she 1st went on them i could see a inprovement after about a week.
Im very pleased with the results. :T
she is also on matacam, which I get from animedTreat other's how you like to be treated.

I buy flexi-joints for our dog. He's had a touch of arthritis for years now since a cruciate op and has 2 tablets in his tea every night. He also has one capsule of green lipped mussel from Holland & Barrat. He's nearly 11 now and still bouncing round like a nutter.Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0 -
One of ours has a lot of hip and joint problems, she couldn't take metacam as had internal bleeding, she couldn't walk at this point and was only 3. I've tried different things over the years, the main ones I wouldn't stop are Wendals devils claw liquid (I buy the horse one, same strength, but works out a lot cheaper) and glyco flex lll (vetsuk usually is the cheapest). She was getting a bit stiff again last year so I also give her cortaflex, celedrin, ester c, she has always had a magnetic collar and she has a high protein food, salmon based. I'm not sure which of the extras gave the extra relief, probably the cortaflex, but she is 10 now and doing really well so don't want to stop any.
Our other dog is 9 and just starting to stiffen up so started her on the glyco flex that has green lipped mussel in it as well as glucosamine and msm.0 -
My rescue Chocy Lab is at the vets on Tuesday for xrays on her front legs.
She is about 18 months old and has developed a strong limp in her front left leg especially after exercise but it has beengetting worse over a matter of 2 weeks
She had a broken hind leg in 2 places that had to be plated when we got her at 8 months old and the plates had to be removed 3 months later as she was still growing. She healed perfectly
She has stiffened up over the winter and now the vet thinks she has elbow dysplasia. of some form in her front legs.
Luckily we have insurance but as this is happening to her at such a young age I am really worried as again she can't have any exercise and is really depressed .. she is such a lovely dog
has anyone else had this happen to a Labrador?0 -
Hope it's not so bad news after the x-ray on Tuesday. I've heard (from someone that works in a vet specialising in joint issues and rehabilitation) that front leg lameness can often relate to hind leg problems, simply from the dog trying to compensate by putting more weight on the front legs, so perhaps the front leg limp is relating to the hind leg issues? I certainly found this to be the case somewhat with my GSD who had hip dysplasia - it was diagnosed because she started 'tripping' over her front paw, like she wasn't lifting it up enough as she walked (think of someone wearing Uggs and how they scuff their feet!). X-rays showed her elbows to be absolutely fine but we had the hips done at the same time and they were the issue.
There's lots that can be done for dysplasia/arthritis nowadays so even if it is an issue, at least insurance opens up many of the options for you. There are operations similar to that available for hip dysplasia, including a total elbow replacement, though I believe generally they try to control the issue through pain relief and management (e.g. restricted exercise - not none at all, but nothing to jar the elbow, and they may suggest hydrotherapy to strengthen the muscles around the joint)
This is a fab read on arthritis in dogs - it is often the arthritic changes to a joint with dysplasia that causes the pain and lameness so worth a read even if it is ED. http://dogaware.com/health/arthritis.html0 -
Mine's a big dog who has trouble getting up sometimes (half alsatian). I give him a course of Rhus Tox when he's not doing well, it works.
Before someone says it, I'm aware that all homeopathic remedies have been scientifically proven to be no better than placebo's, don't tell the dog that thoughYes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

I will third it
my dog is nearly 14 years old and he's been on these for a few months now and they certainly seem to be helping him. He has 2 tablets a day broken up and sprinkled on the top of his food to make sure he eats them.
He still as the odd stiff day but then don't we all :rotfl:0 -
Keep an eye out on the Pedigree Facebook Page here:

Several times a year they have trialed the joint care sticks and they choose so many dogs to take part. Bob was luck enough to be picked early last year for a 6 week trial. We had a parcel from Pedigree containing some toys and 6 weeks worth of Joint Care Sticks (all free).
We completed the trial and by the end of it Bob did seem a little more lively and seemed to move a bit easier so I chose to continue with the sticks.0
