Options
I wasn't aware of it, but dogs joints stiffen just like us during the winter months. Now is the absolutely worst time for it. does anyone know any supplements that can be used to help - my dog, sam is suffering.

  • Winter is the worst time for dog joint stiffening.

lintbells.com specialise in supplements for dogs, we have used their supplements for years and seem to help - but never completely eradicate the problem.
  • thanks, i've not heard of them, but then our dog has never had problems like like this before, but he is getting old! I have heard that there is cod liver oil for dogs, which surprised me.

I've heard some really fab reviews on the JointAid supplements. They're little pellets you add to the food

Cortaflex was a big seller when I worked in a petshop too, they do horse and human versions as well, we had lots of repeat customers so they must have felt it worked

Re. cod liver oil, it tends to be recommended not to use regularly because the vitamin A in it can be overdosed with nasty side effects. You'd be better feeding a fish body oil (it is the liver that is high in vitamin A), such as salmon oil (lots of brands available for dogs), or using a fish oil supplement from a health shop.

I second Lintbells - their product is yumove, and they will send out a generous free sample so you can trial it. My pooch is on this as well as metacam - obviously the metacam will help with the pain, but the yumove should help to stop her arthritis getting worse.
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

This also - it will do little or no good, and may actually cause harm in my understanding. Much better to go with a dog specific glucosamine preparation.

Dog joint sticks from a supermarket or pet shop are actually pretty good, and cheap!

It is the green lipped muscle in them which helps, and the own brand ones often have as much in as the branded ones.

I also use salmon oil too which helps when my dog is being picky with his food as he loves it!

There was a thread on here a while back about it but I can't remember which one!

Take a look at this website:

We used to buy the Flexi-joint for cats for our old boy.

I think they do something similar for dogs.

The tablets were palatable so not a problem to give.

Oddly this is £16.29 for 60 tablets at Lintbells, but £9.95 (with free delivery) at MedicAnimal:
