Remote TV - HDMI ?

We are getting an upgrade to an HD sky box - next week
Our downstairs TV is an old CRT set (so no HD)
Upstairs we have an HD ready TV - connected to the downstairs + box by UHF cable/magic eye - From what I understand - even though we are not subscribing to HD - We will still get terrestrial (BBC1, 2, ITV, CH4) HD available ?
My question is - to get HD upstairs will obviously require an HDMI cable - will sky install this to replace the UHF cable and also - if upstairs is connected via HDMI - accessing HD channels - what about downstairs ?
ie Will non-HD still work, simultaneously (different channels ?)

Sky wont install an HDMI cable from the downstairs box to the upstairs
thats a long HDMI cable!

That's what I thought - so how do people get HD TV upstairs ?

The realistic way is a telly box upstairs
whether its Sky or whatever
We have a freeview HD box upstairs(got it for £20)
Plus a WD TV for streaming films from downstairs

would reversing your set up be possible?
So Sky box upstairs and use the magic eye for downstairs

What is the screen size of your HD ready TV? Also what is your typical viewing distance?

24" and 8 feet !!
I am going to try to get Sky to run an HDMI cable from the box - through the wall, up the outside of the house wall - through the bedroom wall, across the bedroom floor to the TV (40 feet) - will that be OK - attenuation-wise ?
Also - I assume that the "non-HD" signal will be better than on the old (UHF) cable ?
What also concerns me about this mixed HD and NON-HD usage is that, presumably BBC1 HD is a different channel to NON-HD - So what happens if both TV's are being watched simultaneously ?

You have no chance
Sky carry one size of HDMI and approx 1 metre,even if they did you would have possible signal loss issues on that length
Its not the same as the coax ones they fit and cut to size

So you are saying that nobody can get sky HD in bedrooms ?
Unless you are using a multiroom set-up ?
What about the "magic eye" - how does that work with HDMI ?

Is that what I said?
That is why Sky offer multiroom
As per my previous post with regard to having various boxes under the TV
If you want to buy/run a 40 foot HDMI then you can
its plug & play
However I would guess the HDMI will override the scart output
