I second this one. The barclaycard has annoyingly complex T&Cs and, although it has a good ongoing rate, Aquas low limits would be too much hassle for me. Might be good as a secondary for when Amex isn't accepted though.
Amex will certainly beat Aqua in the first year with the 5% intro bonus (max of £125 in the first three months) then down to 1.25% on everything else. As already mentioned the foursquare and other amex offers are a nice bonus and if you're shopping there anyway can net you about £100 each time they run new ones.0 -
Mines simple.
And thats something I approve of.
All I have to do is try and push through £1500 a month, rather than a certain number of big purchases and so on.0 -
+1 for Amex if you're spending more than £300/month. The extra cashback deals are worth keeping an Amex for0

I don't think this is always the best option but i know it works for some.
For example I recently bought a new bed from Ikea with a cashback card. Ikea don't accept Amex as far as I can tell (http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_GB/customer_service/shop_online/payment_methods.html) so if I only had that card I wouldn't have got anything back.
I admit I probably have quite strange spending habits but this is why the barclaycard is better for me. I tend to make several expensive purchases a month (petrol etc) and then loads of shrapnel purchases.
With a spending habit similar to this I get 2% on the big purchases rather than the 1.25% the amex gives and as this makes up pretty much all of my spend im quids in. Also the introductory period is more generous on the barclaycard I believe.Graduated 16 July 2013 with First Class Honours :jHouse Deposit: £6,493.10 - Cashback Total: £447.670
