Mobility Scooter broke can I get a crisis loan?

Just had a quote from the mobility shop that took my scooter in to look it over.
£98 for 2 new tyres as a cuuple of lads thought it'd be funny to slash them.
The batteries have run out so they want £400.
If you can point me in the direction of a cheaper place online that you would trust I would be extremely grateful.
Ebay has lots of suitable batteries, and probably tyres.

If you post the exact model number of the scooter, or pictures of the batteries along with dimensions, people may be able to advise exactly.0 -

Here is a link which has specification of the scooter.

This seems to be quite a large vehicle.
Entering 'shoprider cordoba battery' into google reveals http://www.batteries4mobilityscooters.co.uk/battery/Mobility-Battery-(AGM)-12v-75Ah/25/ as one of the first hits.
It looks unlikely you'll get a couple of batteries for much under a couple of hundred quid.

It possibly might be a better idea for me to look for a 2nd hand scooter on ebay.
I should have strongly warned you to make them 'test' in your home and not to allow them to take your vehicle elsewhere until you had agreed a price.
- 75ah batteries good enough for your job are around £110 each less the VAT if you claim before you buy ! .. .. not £400 a pair
- what did they say about state of the charger ?
- how much are they asking for the tyres ?
- how much are they charging for labour ?
Have you agreed to anything ?, or paid anything ?.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. They didn't take the charger even though I said that it wasn't starting a charge.
they said the batteries are Gel ones hence them being £400 for the pair.
For the 2 tyres and inner tubes they are charging me £98.
They also wanted to charge me £80 for a service and they haven't mentioned labour.
Fortunately I haven't handed any money over yet, though I was going to pay for the tyres.
If I don't needthe gel batteries I am tempted to buy some from ebay and try and fit them myself though not sure how easy it is.0 -
They also told me that the scooter currently had 2 x 100ah batteries and that one had gone completely but the other one was fine.
But they said I can't replace just 1 battery as it will harm the scooter, is this right?
And are these batteries on ebay okay? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LUCAS-12V-75AH-CYCLIC-VRLA-MOBILITY-BATTERY-VAT-FREE-FOR-DISABLED-/320976668828?pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Mobility_Disability_Medical_ET&hash=item4abbb3489c
Thanks by the way for all your help.0 -
Look UN17ED, that's one big machine and needs good batteries, I assume the rider [yourself] is equally big or you wouldn't have purchased it in the first place. However a battery is a battery, just what use does it really honestly get ? I mean are you telling me its nearly 60 miles to the shops and back. Or are the shops close but you go out at lunchtime and don't come home till Eastenders starts ?
Tell me something about your actual use.
GEL is better but more expensive and a GEL charger is also more expensive. 100ah is more expensive than 75ah. I'm assuming you are a big person to need that kind of performance.
If you replace the dud 100ah you don't need two, one will do, if you buy 75ah your better replacing both because it charges at 24v and its preferable both batteries are identical
The e-bay one is the same as the one I gave you in #10
I'd tell the shop two new 75ah at £150 fitted including labour and see what they say. On wheel / Tyre Size they should be 35.6cm / 14", I Haven't a clue on tyre prices, I'll have a look later for you. However at £100 a pop for £25 quid tyres I'm assuming they are having your eyes out along with your cheque book.

One bad battery may bring the good one down, but in no way will it harm the scooter.
If they told you that you need to go somewhere else.
Very Good advice Richie-from-the-Boro but the estimate of 70 miles for a disability scooter is incredibly optimistic.
I understood the range given by the makers is 30 miles - and even then they tend to be very optimistic..“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -

I've been beaten to it with regards to how far you can go on a charge which is approx 30 miles but that depends on terrain.
Where I live is hilly and the scooter is used to go to the shops with, and for longer journies because I do not own a car and the bus service for some parts of where I live are not very good.
The 2 tyres plus inner tubes will cost me £98 altogether not each.0 -
What did you do last time you asked the question in 2010?just passing through.... Nothing to see....0
