Getting rid of voicemail notification icon on Samsung Galaxy Mini

Hope one of you phone whizz kids can help with my dilemma.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Mini on TMobile/EE on which I have not configured voicemail as I don't need it.

On Christmas day the voicemail notification icon appeared on the phone.

I suspect the message is from TMobile/EE wishing me a Merry Christmas as they would be the only ones able to send a voicemail notification.

As I have no intention of ringing the voicemail number to retrieve a message I don't want, how on earth can I get rid of the notification icon.

I've tried all the methods I can think of but to no avail and the pesky icon will not go.

I know that if I ring the voicemail number and retrieve the message the icon will disappear but why should I spend money for something I've not signed up for and don't want.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

  • Thought voicemail on contract with T-mobile was now part of your inclusive minutes and not charged separately as well as 08 numbers?

    ^This

Or you could just ring 150 (frEE) and ask them to cancel voicemail?

Like I said, I've not had voicemail activated on my account and for the record my "deal" does not include free calls to a voicemail number.

Called T-Mobile today and asked why had I recieved a voicemail notification despite the fact my voicemail is not activated and they could not give an explaination why it has happened.

They did give me a credit of 10p plus vat to allow me to retrieve the message which sounded like Korean and so still a complete mystery as to who it came from and guess what, even after retrieving it the bloody notification icon is still sitting on the screen.

    I give up!

AFAIK at all providers voicemail is activated by default and you have to ask to switch it off if you want.

Re the remaining notification, I am no expert, but you probably should have deleted the message, not just retrieved it.

Thanks Grumbler, I'd forgot to delete it which I've now done and has got rid of the icon.

The annoying thing is that a voicemail message notification got through to my phone in the first place, as I'd had the voicemail facilty removed over a year ago and when I spoke with T-Mobile yesterday they confirmed that it was still deactivated.

A mystery of the modern age!

In case this happens again, did you try dragging the message off to the right of the notification window? That will remove the notification but not sure if it would come back.

VM can be turned off for callers, but it remains possible for customers to forward a message by entering (or mis entering) your mobile number. This gets round the VM block - but folk rarely know how to do it!
