Diesels are not bad, however with the price of it unless you do major miles a year I wouldnt bother as their is zero saving

Yes ive seen the price of diesel.
  • I'm stunned by the insurance price you're being quoted. I'm in my mid 40s, and have been a licensed driver since I was 16. I have many, many years of no claims bonuses both in my country of birth (USA) and my last country of residence before moving to the UK (Switzerland). I had to take a driving test to get a UK licence - so I was considered a new driver in the UK by most companies.

Most of the insurance quotes I've had were in the £4800 - 5900/year range. Granted, I live in Manchester...but considering all else I was stunned by the high quotes.

I managed to get insurance for £320/year on a 2012 Skoda Citigo, as the company counted my no claims from Switzerland and they're generally cheap (it is an American company that normally only insures overseas military people) and not generally available to the general public. The absolute cheapest I could find anywhere on this car was still £1000/year from a British company - and that included 6+ years Swiss no claims.

I'd truly check that quote out yet again, if something is too good to be true, it usually is.

op you never said you put an additional driver on, i919.photobucket.com/albums/ad36/Jamzify/isure4_zpse6cf6262.png was that an older parent?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Even at your top figure. How much money do you have left each month?

£300 ? What about repairs or servicing costs and MOT's?

Cannot see anyone lending you more than a couple of thousand. If that.

Re: Insurance.. Its not parked at the registered address. Put Leeds and im sure those prices can triple.

Also you slipped up. That drivers details are not for someone under 25.

I will let you find out where you slipped up.

I've just been told by so many that diesels are more efficient and much more economical than petrol

Diesels cost more to buy than the equivalent petrol and more to maintain. The fuel and car tax costs are lower. The sums work out in favour of diesel if you do maybe 12k miles a year or more.

In my opinion it is madness to borrow that much money to buy a car when still a student with limited income. If your parents' credit rating is as bad as you suggest then they are probably not going to qualify as acceptable guarantors.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
