How often do you haggle with Virgin?

For those who like to get a deal. As per the title. Do you try for a new deal as soon as the old contract expires, or do you leave it a while? (how long?)
I've got a basic broadband only contract with Virgin. Been with them about 5 years & last year managed to get about 1/3 off last year after threatening to leave.
They did mention my 'quite high usage' when I said I was leaving, which I claimed I was trying to cut down (leaving Virgin & using a dongle would have forced this). I'd thought I'd try & cut down my usage for a few months now then If I phoned up again they couldn't say I used a lot. But that ain't gonna happen. With catch-up TV and everything else I can't see me lowering my usage much.
I did think of just using the internet at work & various free wi-fi areas but can't see that working either.
My broadband only is a drop in the ocean compared to what some are paying but still, if there's savings to be made it must be worth trying.
So do you get a new deal every year? I feel cheeky asking them but if you don't ask then you definitely won't get.

Every year, went up this year though, so be careful, you might find yourself paying more than you do today, a discount on what you pay today is not a given as the price of the product has increased and the ability to offer large discounts like before has been removed from the VM systems.
If you are a high user then you should be on a higher package, as this offers more room for discounts. a High user on a basic package really isn't worth retaining to VM, especially as they know their internet fibre product is much faster than the majority of residential ADSL offerings.0 -
I got the same "high usage" feedback when I was talking to them recently about price increases. When I asked them for the download figures they were looking at, they ranged from 20-40GB over the past 4 months.
Looking at some of the posts on here, and the download caps imposed by the other providers, I don't consider this to be "high" usage so sometimes you just have to make sure they're not trying to steer you into staying with them by saying you'd exceed competitors' limits.0
