Dosn't matter what you say, iv'e seen more cyclists break the traffic laws on a daily basis than other road users.
When I was on the motorway the other day, every car that passed my car when I was driving at 70 mph was breaking the law. Poor visibility and a lot of cars without headlights didn't help.
Not one cyclist to be seen

That's because it's easier to get away with it, if they could do it in cars they would!
Why is there no hope for me then? I've recounted one offence over 20 years ago, before I drove. Since then I have had 20 years driving with a totally clean licence.
If it doesn't matter what I say, why are you replying?
I could say the same about what you say, I see a lot more drivers, driving badly than cyclists, cycling badly, but that is my personal experience and I don't need it validating by you!

but thats the problem, anyone can jump on a bike and cycle on a road, why is it that all other road users must pass tests to travel on the roads but cyclists dont!!
Please remember that the majority of adult cyclists are also drivers who have passed the driving test.
According to the Highway code, pedestrians and horse riders are also vulnerable road users - no need for a test for those!
Perhaps the need for a test for motorists is there because they drive huge lumps of metal at relatively high speeds and cause hundreds of deaths on Britain's roads. And in the main these are the ones that have passed the test!The most vulnerable road users are pedestrians, particularly children, older or disabled people, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders.

It's just another example of irresponsible driving on the roads just because you can't wait for a few more seconds.

On certain junctions if it is clear you should be able to turn left on red just like in the USA it would help ease congestion.0

You are absolutely correct, I was just trying to make it easy for those who cant grasp the basicsGREEN = Proceed if it is safe to do so.
I know this because I once didn't proceed at a green light due to someone walking out in front of me. The car behind me on the other hand took the green light to be a starting pistol. I got a ticking off for doing a red light in my car at 5.50am, having checked that there was nothing coming (decent view of all directions). Plod was pretty decent, but I did go with the "it's a fair cop, no arguments on pulling me for it" approach. He told me a younger copper would have issued a pcn, and that the risk wasn't worth it, so I don't bother any more.
On the subject of being able to "trigger" lights, I know of one local set that triggers from pressure pads outside of rush-hour times, and I'm almost certain temporary lights can be triggered by headlights. :cool:0 -

100 mph is not likely to be a safe speed to yourself and others driving through a town, and you wouldn't have the thinking time to deal with a situation.
And equating it with burgling somebody's house is really pushing the limits.
If visibility is good and it is absolutely clear that there is nobody coming the other way, then it is fundamentally safe to go through that red light.
Of course, you are breaking the rules and leaving yourself open to being caught.
And the downside is the knock on effect of it becoming commonplace; first somebody does it when it is absolutely clear, then it becomes common knowledge, the somebody follows them through, and one day - KERRRUNCH!!!
The law is not always right, but sometimes there are good reasons for it.0
