Anyway, whats the law on this can you drive through a red if there's no traffic about? I remeber reading on another forum how you can drive through red if its safe to do so. There was a truck driver with dashcam footage of a car in front that drove through a red light. He sent the footage to the police and the police rejected it and said that there's nothing they can do.

Any ideas?

I also thought that if you flash the traffic lights with full beam when approaching at speed, they more often change before you get to them if its quiet...

my son was driving at 4 am in the middle of nowhere. only him on the road for miles, so he went through a red light. and very quickly got a ticket come through the post.

You are supposed to stop at red regardless.

(However, I suspect many people have gone through at some time if there has been an absolutely clear view.)

OP why dont you move to another country where it is legal to go through red lights.

You know its not in the UK or at least you should if you have a license

Ah, so that's why the person who hit my work colleagues car was so surpised when she was done for careless driving having gone through a red light- she was obviously under the impression that the Highway Code was incorrect. (assuming she ever read it of course)
