Well this will be the last time I post on here:(

Apart from using "DD" ( and no I have never been on a Mumsnet site) it seems I am not allowed to ask a question to help my daughter.

    Goodbye MSE.

    Ouch, touchy.

Over twenty replies aren't enough for you. Many questions go unanswered on many boards. Here, people have taken the time to give you good advice and you get the hump because someone questioned your use of text-speak.

I hate abbreviations in forums too. You are expecting others to give their time to read consider and reply to your question yet you make it more difficult for them because you want to save two seconds of your typing time.

I guess that's the world today.

Yes I guess this is todays world:(.
  • There is a savings tab at the top of the page - start there - or perhaps given your daughter is in her 20s she could do it herself.

Like I say; people have taken the time to give you constructive answers and that's not enough for you. Would you and your daughter like us to pop around to your house, help you fill out your daughter's application forms and take them along to the bank for her?

And, if I'm not mistaken, you didn't click the <THANKS> key once.

To be honest, your question had been well answered before the abbreviation debate commenced.

Such is the nature of Internet threads that they will take their own course. Just because somebody starts a thread it doesn't give them editorial control over it.

I think you're being a little over-sensitive. Good luck helping your daughter find a home for her cash.

Not the case -- three answers directly addressed the question, that does not render the remainder unconstructive.

Regarding the DD, using too many glib (and in this case a rather daft) abbreviations is normally considered bad form on more serious forums. I tried to draw attention to this without sounding too scathing -- apologies if I failed in that respect. But to be taken seriously on a forum like this it's important not to give the impression for example of being a silly, Pinot Grigio supping airhead, posting and reading tripe along with others of the same ilk -- even though I am sure that is not actually the case in this instance.

More important are the very constructive points made that a 20+ university student could and should do their own research on things like this. Over protective parenting of young adults is a well known and somewhat disturbing phenomenon in modern Britain, and people cannot be blamed for coming to that conclusion, even if it is not the case.

The considerable majority of internet forums are utter rubbish. This is by and large one of the exceptions and it's worth persevering. But if you are as sensitive as recent posts would indicate then perhaps internet forums are not for you.
