It fits nicely with text speak in my book.
It should be outlawed!
I have to say I agree, but it is used widely.

Sorry
I wish I had not bothered asking the question!!!
No criticism of the question, just the way it was phrased. I don't know why people can't just say "Daughter". Is typing such a burden that those extra 6 letters are too much to contemplate ?
Mumsnet is a dreadful website, and I personally have not seen that particular terminology used anywhere else until now. Why two D's anyway ? If there is a perceived need to abbreviate, why not just D ? The term Dear Daughter is so patronising anyway, savouring of a double entendre between a genuine term of endearment and an ironic description of a 'right little ***'. So typical of the Mumsnet, Chelsea tractor driving YMs (*) I'm afraid.
(*) Yummy Mummies.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

Yes, I agree along with the word XMAS :mad::mad:
"Crimbo" is a lot worse.
Sorry for even sullying this board by quoting it.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.

Some of the MSE boards are littered with those abbreviations. Usually imbedded in at least half a dozen emoticons.
DD on this part of MSE usually stands for Direct Debit.0 -

I am a mother of 3, and have never been on mumsnet. Computer literacy isn't a problem, the min my twins went to nursery school at 2, I signed up for website design and programming classes for fun.
Is there something wrong with me? ;-)0 -
I think possibly the side debate is also about the fact that while as a mother you want to help if you can, if your daughter is in the last year of University, then she is 20/21/older? I know it's hard, but she should be doing her own research about what she should do with her money - and if she makes a mistake that's part of growing up, not part of something you can help with.
(Sorry, I know this one is a toughie!)0 -
I agree, your position as a mother is to advise but she should make the decision in the end. It is good to each your children about finance.0
