Just out of interest, have you tried using a different browser to submit the application?
The way Internet Exploer and the other browsers submit information can differ slightly so this may work?
I agree its still appauling and the web developers should get their finger out.

Update. I have just got hold of Halifax on the phone. Took a fair bit of time to get through and I've never come accross such an inefficient shower in all my life. First of all they told me they only dealt with phone applications and they would put me through to the online people. When I eventually got through there was a recorded message to say they closed at 5 pm. So I got back to phone applications. I asked to speak to a Manager who told me there was a known error with the website. I said then why do people have to go through the whole application process every time and then get the error message. It should be stated at the beginning. They knew it had been going on for several weeks but couldnt tell me when it would be sorted. Also I wanted an assurance I hadnt got multiple applications recorded on my credit record. They couldnt tell me that either and said I had to contact the credit record agencies myself. I said in effect they could be ruining my excellent credit record. I then asked for the details of the Financial Ombudsman but they wouldnt give me that either. At no time was I rude or offensive to them.
At the present time I am in the process of paying the £2 to Equifax to get my credit record. I should'nt have to do this. It appears to me that Halifax arent interested in New Business at all.0 -
It's likely to be Halifax and their atrocious web developers at fault. They took 6 months to fix a very basic problem with looking at historic transactions and the "fix" still didn't work. They also struggle to sort transactions chronologically and get someone that has never used a browser before to design their user interfaces.
Online application fix? Don't hold your breath
I refer you back to my initial comment - expect no website fix for at least a month
Did they tell you it's Equifax they use? BOS searched Experian0 -
There's a problem with some apps 'timing out' (usually when trying to perform a balance transfer at the same time as application but not always). Once the initial application has been received you would be prevented from applying again until 30 days have lapsed.
I would suggest calling Halifax and raising a complaint. There's no reason that you couldn't apply for the 12mth card and have the offer manually extended in light of the system problems - to not offer that resolution could fall foul of the 'treating customers fairly' catch-all.0
