I don't have contracted hours as I am a casual, so my hours can vary greatly. Many of the contracted workers often work above and beyond their contract hours also. Sometimes, even when I don't work overtime, hours still get docked from my pay

How long have you been there?
How long has this been happening?
How much have you been short paid?

Been working there under a year
It's been happening since I started
Every month it's between £30-90 underpaid ( this may sound pityfully small, but my salary is quite low, meaning this much underpaid makes a big difference (around 15-30% of my total pay)

    Under a year? 1 month or 11?

You really should have got this sorted before now but going direct to HR and or payroll.

Just over half a year, and I would have if I had realised that underpay was purposful and not just a simple mistake, but things have been identified within the past few weeks that have opened my eyes.

A simple mistake in my opinion happens maybe twice only. Then you take steps.

Casual worker? So it doesn't matter how long you work there - you accrue no employee rights. That makes this a matter of civil contract. In other words, as a vasic level, a matter of debt. You say the person owes you money and you must prove it and take it through the small claims court. Unless you can also prove that you are an employee in relation to the claim. Can you explain what you mean by casual?

I am contracted 0 hours, and get asked to work as and when I'm needed. I'm still on their payroll etc and often work 20 hours a week here or there

so how does the person who submits the payroll know what hours you have worked?

If you are only being paid for the hours that are on the schedule that is drawn up in advance rather than those that you end up working, the simple answer is to only work the number of hours that the schedule says and no more. Unfortunately that's likely to get your contract terminated, so only you can decide whether you'd rather have a job that is in effect paying a lower hourly rate than you expect (and is that rate above or below NMW?) or get the correct pay that could soon become no pay.
