Thanks for the info, saved me ringing up.
Just gone into My Accounts, entered the details of my bank account I wish to transfer to.
Was informed I'd be sent a letter.
Now to do the O.H.'s.
I'm very tempted to leave £1 in both accounts just to leave them open as I seem to have so much paperwork from setting the account up, plus a passbook!
I know it's only 2% interest but this time next year that might seen good and don't think I could face faffing about opening it again.0 -
Oh no, just read castle96's post which overlapped my reply.
This is getting complicated. Jumping through hoops to get my money withdrawn seems to be slightly over the top at times.0 -
I have just had the most surreal 30 mins online conversation with Monmouthshire.
I added my bank account details as requested for withdrawal purposes.
However then got a e-mail message to go back onto their website as they'd sent me a message.
Unfortunately my details were incorrect.
We have a joint account and I had only typed in my name.
My fault so I redid the details, except........
There wasn't enough space in the box.
I tried various permutations, omitting title, no good, omitted full stops after initials, no good.
Became quite frustrated and messaged them stating the problem, got reply saying try omitting the various ways I'd already tried.
Became very frustrated and messaged them to say it was a good job our surnames wasn't Popadopalopalis (apologies to any Greeks etc with this surname)
Message came back just initials and surname with & inbetween.
There wasn't enough room so I had to leave the & out.
Haven't heard back from them yet.
We have 2 initials each and a six letter surname.
A message has just come in from them, I can't bear to look.
I'm off to take the dog for a walk and calm down.:eek:0 -

That's exactly what I did, except that in my case it worked OK0 -
Hurray:T
Bank account details accepted.
Is it wine time yet?
looked yesterday at 1 yr bond, getting so paranoid/exhausted opening accounts that I had an on-line chat with customer service, by the way this is for when my Monmouthshire account matures.
Heartsink time, to open the account I had to send a cheque with the completed application form, then the verification would take place, through a credit check. I am not willing to send signed copies of important legal documents, plus the fact I don't know anyone to sign them!
So, my quite large cheque would have to sit with them until I knew if I had passed the check, if not and I refused to send documents they'd have to send the cheque back.
Meanwhile losing interest and possibly the closure of an alternative account elsewhere.
I am of pensionable age, no history of anything wrong financially, no debt, lived in the U.K. since birth etc and still never know if I'll pass electronic verification.
The world's gone mad:mad:0 -
What rigmarole! Before a withdrawal can be made, one needs to request online authorisation and also submit bank details. Monmouthshire will then post these details with a prepaid envelope which need to be signed and returned. Once these have been received, Monmouthshire will send out a secure message confirming that withdrawals can now be made online. Shame that I did not realise this a few days earlier as my bonus expires at the weekend!0

But we have known about it for a year. It having been mentioned on the original thread.

Am I missing something, didn't we have to set up a linked account as part of the account opening procedure?Stompa0

If I remember correctly, enabling online access to view accounts was step one. Enabling online withdrawals was step two.
As I said on the other thread: if you have an account coming to its anniversary you should ensure that you can make online withdrawals and that you can use their telephone banking service for verification of large withdrawals or closure.
Check whether you have the withdrawal facility by attempting to withdraw a small amount. If it accepts your instructions you're OK and can cancel the withdrawal if you wish. If it doesn't accept your instructions, it should tell you how to do it.0 -
