The 2% bonus will be paid at anniversary of account opening.

The remaining 2% underlying rate will be paid on 31st March or on closing the account.

nice lady from the M rang. As the 2% variable part is a daily rate, I can close the lot down on 23/1 with no penalty. Still not sure if she said (or not), ,that the 2% var. bit would be paid on 23/1, or on 31/3.........

Just to say bonus has been paid into my account on 13th (my anniversary) and is now showing. [Others might like to check around their own dates]

So once you see this also on your account that confirms you are getting just 2% from now on and it is safe to withdraw capital and/or close the account without necessarily waiting until the fixed annual date of 31st March for the 'standard' interest to be added.
.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam
  • Mine is due on 13th Feb, got a letter saying the promotional bonus is due to end then.

Looking back over old posts on another thread I remember reading that you had to write to them if you wanted to transfer your money to another outside account, through My Accounts system and that could take a week.

I want to be ready to transfer mine when the account matures since it drops to 2%, would rather enjoy 3.2% for a little while longer in Santander.

I'll give them a ring later to find out.

    .

I requested the form through 'my account' messages and received it about three days later, sent it straight back and a few days later received an message through 'my accounts' confirming that it was all set up.

What I did not notice on the form at the time that I could have also set it up carrying out instructions over the phone as well as electronically over the net. Hopefully I will not need the former.

You now do not need to request the form via online message.
I did so a few weeks back and received this reply.

    "Dear Mr noh
We are please to advise you that
    our on-line withdrawal service has
now been launched. If you would
like to use this facility, then
you will first need to register
    your bank account details by
    selecting ‘Your Bank Account’ from
    the ‘My Accounts’ Home page.
    Please follow the instructions and
    read the messages carefully, that
will explain the process and the
    timescales."

They still send you a form but it is prepopulated with the details you enter online. You need to sign and reurn it. It took about a week before the facility became active.

If you've set up Online Access and a linked external account for transfers, you can close the account by sending a secure message via Online Banking. They say closure requests received by 2pm are actioned the same day via Faster Payment.

If you haven't set up online access, do it before your anniversary date.

"there is a daily online withdrawal limit of £10k. Amounts in excess of this can be requested online but require telephone confirmation as well. Please also complete and return the enclosed telephone ID setup form"
