Bought watch, got empty box

Hi everyone, just got a question for you experts out there.
My sister's boyfriend bought a watch from Argos, he ordered it and paid, and then waited for the watch to come to the collection point. He got the watch at the collection point, and it was in a cardboard box with the watch box inside. Took it home and wrapped it up. He never looked in the watch box, just looked in the cardboard box and saw the watch box (silly him), My sister opened it today and there's no watch in the box! They've sold him an empty box for £50! He said it was the last one in stock, could this be why? Do you think we have any rights going back? My sister and her boyfriend are furious about it. Please, if anyone can come back to me asap that would be really appreciated, we are going back tomorrow morning to see what they say but thought i'd ask if we had any rights before.
Thanks in advance!

All the Argos shops I use have a jewellery section and the staff member opens the box in front of me so I can try it on. I have never had to go to the collection point to pick up a item of jewellery.I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0

Is a watch defined as an item of jewellery?0

If its the sisters boyfriend buying it as a present for the sister I don't see why they would get him to try it on!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I dont know if it is or not, i asked him straight away didnt they open the box and show you? (as in my experience they normally do) and he said no, they just stamped his receipt as collected and gave him the box. :S0

Well you are more likely to buy a watch from a jewellery shop than a butchers:DI think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0

ahhh i see. yes it is classed as jewelry, i agreem but i don't know if argos do in the sense you have to go to the jewelry counter for the item, as he collected this watch from the collection point like you would with a hoover or kids toy.0 -
Can anyone help me out then? does anybody know if he's got any rights?0

Does the shop have a watch display cabinet? If so maybe the watch is still in the display cabinet if the last one?0
