I have a Canon 400D and you don't need any special software. Windows, Linux or OSX will import any pictures without any problems.

Also the 400D use a CompactFlash card not SD, it's under the cover on the right side of the camera.

If you have a USB card reader then the easiest way is to take the CF card from the camera and put it in the reader.

Failing that there's a mini USB port under the rubber flap on the left side of the camera.

    Exactly this.

400D uses compact flash. Go buy a USB card reader (very cheap), alternatively, mini USB/normal USB cable to plug directly into the computer.

    Job Jobbed.

Assuming you have the correct USB lead for that camera, all you need do is connect the camera to a USB port on your PC.

As was said above, open My Computer, Computer, or Windows Explorer. You should see a number of drives; your C: drive is the PC hard disk, in most cases D: or E: is your optical drive - at the end of this list, you should find the camera, listed as a drive.

(Your compute may open the camera folders with Autoplay, though)

Double-click this to open it, you may need to open further folders below this, but your pictures WILL be there....

Keeping this window open, open another Explorer window for the place you want to put them. Copy/paste from the camera window to the destination window.

Close the camera window, and use 'safely remove hardware' before switching it off and unplugging.
  • Thanks All

The manual that came with the camera says ''do not switch the camera on'' while importing and this is wahat i did.

Angrily switched it on and the photo's started downloading.

    Many thanks folks.

If i need to brighten or reduce lightening. Anyone have hints on that?

For that you need some photo editing software.

There are free options like GIMP or paid for options like Photoshop Elements.
