Hello Fellow savers and complement of the season.
All the very best in 2013.
I got the above mentioned camera from a friend to snap some pictures for a funtion few days ago.
He did NOT give me the accompany software that will enable me to download it into my PC.
1) He told me that i can just ''plug'' it without any software. I tried that but cannot access the photos.
2) I went to canon website, downloaded the software which went directly to my program files folder.
I launch the program but it was still asking for a cd which i dont have.
Can anyone be of help pleaseeee?

Are you recording the photos on an SD card?
What happens when you put the card into your computer?0 -

Doesn't it show up as an additional drive on the computer? (when connected) OR does your computer have a memory card reader or you can buy one for £1 or so.
computer
or E: etc. and DCIM folder?
I have a camera and the software suite is such a pain. I just take out the memory card, much easier.

If the camera was storing its photos in .jpg format you should be able to view the photographs straight from the SD card or camera.
If, however, the camera was set to use "RAW" then you will need the appropriate software to open, then convert these files to a more accessible format. Each camera uses a slightly different RAW format so you must have the software that suits your camera.
Suggest you Google the Canon website for info on which converter to use for your camera.0 -
Hi ,
If you go and use the computer at your library they usually have loads of different software on them and you will be able to upload the photos .I do this all the time, including recently a Canon which I have just bought. The relevant window just pops up automatically when I plug in the USB cable or the memory card with a memory card reader.A lot of libraries will let you have at least half an hour as a guest if you are not a member which should enough time for you to load and save them.0 -
This is the way I use my Canon & Computer
Download free 'GOOGLE' Picasa 3 to your computer
Connect camera & switch on
Select 'Import'
Select 'Canon camera'
Name file & Import
They will now be in a file in Picasa and in your 'photos' on your hard drive
You can now edit them in Picasa as well

you can buy usb card readers for £1 in poundland, A lot easier in the long run and mines lasted for 2 years. You will need some editing program to edit the photos though.0

I have a Canon 400D and you don't need any special software. Windows, Linux or OSX will import any pictures without any problems.
Also the 400D use a CompactFlash card not SD, it's under the cover on the right side of the camera.
If you have a USB card reader then the easiest way is to take the CF card from the camera and put it in the reader.
Failing that there's a mini USB port under the rubber flap on the left side of the camera. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

I too, would have thought that this would be possible.

Simply connect your camera, and then open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer). On the left hand screen, your camera will be visible. Click on the plus arrow next to it to see the sub-directory that contains your pics. Finally, drag and drop them to your hard disk.
Good luck.Marching On Together
