Terrible Virgin Media (ex NTL) TV

Ok, firstly I'll just say that i know this probably isn't the right forum to post this, but i can't find a thread for TV as as this thread is the one with the most action, it's more likely it will be moved to a more appropriate place (if there is one):
I've been having terrible trouble with my digital TV service since the change from NTL to Virgin Media. Basically every time i turn on the box it says Virgin powering up and can stay like that for anything from 30 minutes to 4 hours.
Has anyone else had similar problems?
Basically i was wondering if anyone has any hopefully freephone numbers where i can call them to complain and also ask for some kind of discount for their poor level of service.
I don;t want to be calling India to be treated like an idiot (unplug the set top box blah blah, check leads) at my expense.
Thanks in advance people.

I've popped this into the Vent Board but you might like to try the Internet Board for threads about Virgin Media as a number of people have their internet/tv package.0

Hi There,
We thought we were the only ones.! until we had the engineer out today, apparently when the new tv guide etc downloads on to the tv it completely messes up the box, not in all instances but when it did it on ours last Wednesday, [the 'new' Virgin guide] we had exactly the same problem, ours was taking at least 30mins to an hour to power up. We also have a Virgin phone line and if you have one too, just dial 150 and choose the option for TV problems and they will book an engineer in for you, we had to wait 6 days and when I called them this morning to check the engineer was coming today, they refunded 1 months TV package rental for our inconvenience.
We are all up and working now and had to have a new box... but.... for some reason we are back on the old NTL on screen guide so we are hoping that if it downloads again we wont get the same problem, the engineer thought not, but said if we did to call again and book an engineer.!
Hope this helps.

What sort of box do you have? We had problems and they swapped out the old Pace box for a new Samsung one which was loads better. Now have V+ and have kept the Samsung upstairs. Can I help?0

My box is an NTL Pace one, if that makes sense.
Anyway when i call the customer services they send a signal through and then it seems to come on after that. But as i was telling the guy on the phone i cant be expected to ring up every time i want to watch digital TV, but the dumbos in India don't seem to understand that, in fact you can even here them turning the pages of their help manual. GRRRRRRRRR!
Needless to say i have been severely inconvenienced already as i have already missed much of the Skysports stuff i wanted to watch.Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -

It looks like i'll be phoning India every time i want to watch TV and you'll have to book an engineer.

Just say that the box keeps overheating and cutting out. They'll swap it for a new one and you should be fine. Can I help?0

Yeah, i rather think it is a problem with the box, but trying to tell that to someone you can barely understand in India can get quite annoying, especially when they are monotonously reading to you from their walk-through guide for idiots.
Does anyone have a freephone number where i can sort out an engineer? I don't want to have to go through all the above AGAIN before i finally get put through up to one hour later.Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0
