It's kinda scary how quickly serious thoughts about pensions sneek up on you isn't it?Subscribing! I'm another one popping over from the NSD thread
I am in a similar-ish position to you MP2K but I'm early 30's. We have quite a sum of debt behind us at the mo, and I'm the only one working (Mr Shortie is a stay at home Dad at the mo). I've started focussing on the 2 debts we have at the mo - at best, with big overpayments we can be Debt Free by mid 2016. Realisitically we won't always make the maximum hoped overpayments so I know that date will move but if I hold onto 2016 it helps spur me on...
The plan was to overpay the mortgage after that but in truth I see another loan coming up - we moved house 2 months ago and an area I thought we could work around cheaply will need pulling down and rebuilding if it's going to ever be our lovely 'forever home'. I simply refuse to have a 3rd debt to my name though (if any bank would even let me that is - I'm not even going to check if I can) so Mr Shortie is onboard that we will get rid of our two loans first before taking on a new one
We've not had bailiffs, nor are we struggling (well, if we are it's only self imposed as I'm pushing so hard to make big overpayments on the loans) but that doesn't make our journeys any less important
Hope the docs can help with the depression when you go to see them. I understnad the feeling about not wanting to be on meds, but if they make you feel much better there has to be some value in that right? x
It's really good that you've taken things in hand so early Shortie, I wish I had. I spent 18 years married to a man that made sure I never had a penny that wasn't owed twice over to somebody. Well done you for taking chargeHello

Thank youIt is hard though as while our friends certainly aren't swimming in money, they don't seem to grapple so much the the thought behind it... I've always had a slightly unhealthy dislike of debt. Don't get me wrong, it's a natural process of adult hood for most people, but I hate it. Not because I have to pay it back - I'd happily not have the debt but also not have the money I use to pay it off - it's just the fast it's there looming that I hate
Hence taking the bull by the horns now and trying to tackle it as fast as possible
At least you are the master of your own money now though, and good on you for taking the bull by the horns too and trying to get yourself into a position you want to be in through your own steamApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -

I dunno Spoony, I seem to get the best answers when talking to myself. :rotfl:Thanks for popping over though
I fell asleep on the sofa last night, woke up at 2 and stayed awake till about 5 am, fell asleep again till around 11. I had a telephone session with my counsellor at 12 so did that and had something to eat. Then decided I had to go out, I'd ordered a matress protector from House of Fraser so went to collect that. I thought I'd treat myself to something too, but just couldn't manage it. I'd taken £40 out of the bank to treat myself but it's still in my purse. Just coudn't find anything that inspires me. Only treat I managed was a free hot chocolate from Cafe Nero on the O2 priority moments.:exclamati Not doing very well am I?
Anyhow, I'm going to go and put dinner on, Hope everyone enjoys their celebrations tonight. see you next year.0 -
hope you have a lovely evening moneypenny keep your money until you feel a bit better then treat yourself. i do that sometimes think i wiil treat myself but feel low and cant be bothered or just not in the right mood. the weather dosent help it has poured all day again.

MP - I think a free hot choc is a lovely treat - sometimes if I'm out shopping on my own I love to get a cuppa and a scone and just sit watching the world go by for a bit.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Fell asleep last night woke up around 11.10, thought I had slept through midnight, but hadn't, watched a film till I slept around 4. Got up today at 11. Changed the bed including turning the mattress, no mean feat as it's blooming heavy. Then I cleaned the spa bath and did some washing. My daughter came around with the kids and cooked me lunch, I know she's worried about me but feel unable to deal with it at the mo. In fact apart from my counselor and my daughter I've not spoken to anyone for over a week. Unless you count please and thank you at the shops.
On the money front decided not to go out and get bread, will make do with pitta bread from the freezer and leftover chilli that I made the other day. Found myself nearly buying a scooter for my grandson from the grabbit board but decided not to spoil my NSD. Will go and post on the NSD thread in a mo.
Tomorrow I've got an appointment with the doctor, going to ask to go back on the antidepressants again. Feel such a fraud, still it needs to be done. I've also got a mystery shopper visit tomorrow so that will take care of my need for milk and bread without a spend. So maybe I can get through till Friday without a spend. We'll see. The fee will go towards clearing my credit cards when it comes in. I've been putting all my coins into 2 jars, can't remember who it was in the NSD thread that suggested it, I'd just put them in one jar before. So the 50p and up jar will go towards buying me the very good quality sheets and duvet cover that I want at some point. Will wait till I've got the money I need to cover them.
Thanks for the support guys and Happy New Year0 -
morning unable to sleep will be tired later.
moneypenny . hope you get on ok at the doctors today. you did well resisting the temptation to buy that scooter. children have plenty especially at christmas time. im the same with my dgd you see things that you think they will love but you have to keep in mind your challenge. they would enjoy you playing a game with them just as much. mine love me reading stories with them and teaching them how to knit etc.
you sound like you have a lovely caring daughter its only natural that she will be worried about you im sure you would be if the situation was reversed. its good that you have some one to keep an eye on you does she live nearby and do you see her often.
i feel like i have a cold starting how annoying when im due back to work tomorrow. I have to take youngest dgd to doctors for her injection later today her mother is squeamish.
have a good day and take care:)
