If you are referring to astigmatism, it is unlikely that it would be deemed a disability. However, the definition varies according to the purpose - for what reason do you wish to know?0

has anyone had anything similar and is it classed as a disability? vicki x
- its usually diagnosed at childhood,in which case you might want to consider getting a second opinion
- most specs wearers have two pairs, that's the common norm, the exception being bi-focals
- depends on race and other factors, but mainly which type and what degree of astigmatism
- about 16% to 40% depending on type of those who wear specs have an astigmatism in one or both eyes
- if you are worried don't be, millions have it, and no, no chance whatever of getting DLA at any level for itDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. It is not the lens that should be made stronger it is the prism that controls the eye muscle movement that helps.
I have had this condition since my teens and my fisrt opt did it by ever increasing lens strength. Headaches got so bad that I went back and complained, only to have a new opt at same opt who said my lens strength was wrong and that I needed a prism in the eye with the problem. The difference was amazing and I still have 20:20 vision even now with 31 years passing since I had to begin wearing them. So I think you need to ask about that. Definitely 2nd opinion needed.0 -
thank you for your reply, did not post regarding benefits as i am a carer for my son so claiming for me for anything is not an option, just wanted reassurance that if any one else had it it dosent get to the point where you loose more sight

Hey vicki x, don't be angry with people, you asked the question, people only gave you the answer to the question you asked. You then edited your original post in an attempt to alter / twist / revise the truth of what you yourself actually said. An even handed fellah would wonder why would you want to hide / redact the truth of what you typed ?. One blatantly obvious reason I can think of is to falsely accuse innocent others of answering a question you did not ask.
Here for anyone coming across these thread what vicki x actually posted in the original unedited #1 version before s/he altered the truth at 7:26 PM on Sat 29th Dec 2012.

if you look under my thread it says why i altered the post for all to see i havent actually tried to hide anything just thought if i stuck to the actual main question i would get some nice constructive answers instead of being accused of a benefit scrounger why did you have to re put it again is it in most peoples nature on here to stick the boot in the new person
but thanks once agiain for reposting my post and making me out to be a benefit scrounger when i have already said I DO NOT NOR WISH TO CLAIM BENEFIT FOR MYSELF AND MY EYES
THANK YOU0 -

Because they are entitled to benefits, and they are not on here asking for advice.
You are sounding very bittern, to be honest.
Your original post gave the impression that you were asking if you could claim benefits. Simple as that really.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
they are not in my opinion entitled to benefits in any shape or form there are many people who have genuine disability's that they can do nothing about these people have brought it all on them selves did anyone force them to take drugs, drink eat no and if it comes across as bitter then so be it but i am fed up with people having a go at others on this site and i though if you cant beat them join them and i cannot and would not claim benefits for my eyes i have already said that several times you can not judge someone on a few lines written on a forum but you and others have all pre judged me so i though i would give my opinion on what i think of people in my opinion and thats all it is bitter or otherwise
vicki0 -
i asked for advice on my eyes,eg has anyone else on here had it does it get worse would any minor op help ect but there were very few answers to those questions i did not ask for benefit advice if you can show me on any of my post where i have then i will apologise, these forums are here to help not judge people so i though but as you have all judged me i thought i would give you my opinion on benefit scroungers x0
