So there is also a prediction of 200bln more QE and a cut in rates to 0.25% so no consensus...

Surely there are two possible scenarios for a rate rise - the 'growth from US success' story and the 'UK starts to lose market credibility and has to raise rates to support borrowing' scenario...
    I think....

My guess is we'll see a nominal increase in the second half of the year, but that's based on very little evidence.

  • It would of course be excellent news if the economy were to recover to the extent that the bank had to raise base rates.

However, there is a reason that only a small minority of pundits in the article think that is likely....

I noticed BBC News 24 is struggling for news at this time of year - I bet they are thankfull for the recent rain else they may as well pack up and go home for the rest of the year.

I expect the daily's are stuggling likewise. At lest they'll have the odd day or two off, and on their return will be able to write about the Queens Christmas speech (those parts not already being published in advance) :)

Expect the usual pictures & stories of the sales too.
  • Not a prayer. But there is a far greater chance of more QE, and more mortgage market interventions to stimulate low deposit, low rate lending to first-time buyers.

Only 6 institutions have requested funds from the BOE under the funding for lending scheme. So doesn't appear to be a huge appetite from lenders to increase their mortgage lending books.
  • Rate rise 2013 go to the bookies I bet they would give you long odd's
