Pre reg car interior overspray.

I bought a pre reg car with delivery miles on the clock, on inspection the car was as you would expect bar a scratch on the passenger side of the dashboard which I was told would be repaired by an interior specialist to a high standard before collection. But after picking the car up on Saturday I have discovered that there is overspray all over the passenger side of the dash and some other trim parts. I feel at this moment I want to give the dealer a chance to resolve the issue, by chemically removing the overspray providing it doesn't further damage the interior or replace the dashboard parts which have been over sprayed. I am not prepared to let them paint over the top of the overspray and have a fully resprayed dashboard in a brand new car. Any ideas where I stand on this? Can I reject the car as this is not the sort of issue that a brand new car should have?

You should have rejected the car and not collected it.

Reject it for such a minor issue. After you have added an owner to the log book and used it.. Doubtful.

You knew it had the issue before you bought it.. If you were unhappy about having a brand new car repaired why buy it?

You would be surprised at how many new cars have been repaired in some way or other.

This is just my opinion. The only real answer will be contact the dealer and see what they say.

no way they would take it back. and i dont blame them.

you may be able to push for a completely new dashboard, and that is what I would have asked for if the car was brand new and worth a few bob.

Im sure the repair has been recorded in the invoice and I would assume you would have inspected it before making the purcahse final.

repairs are never perfect and will have flaws if you look carefully.

They allowed me to inspect the car in a dark lit workshop and outside in a amber warning storm. Therefore the overspray mess could not be seen, I don't feel that I was allowed to inspect the car properly. I understand repairs are never perfect I was not expecting perfect, but overspray not just on the dashboard but on the a pillar, door, sun visor? Now that to me is not minor nor acceptable, he told me the repair would be 90% effective at least but overspray everywhere is not 90%. They also added me to the log book before the repair was done and before I paid for the car so they can't use that against me. LT I didn't want to reject the car that was just the disappointment coming out, I wanted the over sprayed parts replaced. However today I have been informed by the garage that overspray is acceptable and they will not be removing it nor replacing any parts, so basically they have washed there hands of the car in only 3 days. I therefore have no option but to go down the rejection route as they have said no remedial work will be done on the car. I would like to add there is overspray where the check strap is on the passenger side door and also on the plastic section beside where your feet would go! The repair was above the glovebox!
  • What has the dealer said and offered to do?
  • The dealer has said that over spray on the door and surrounding trim (which was no where near the repair) is acceptable in this kind of repair and that under no circumstance will any remedial work or trim replacement take place. As I have said before I really wanted just the parts which have been over sprayed replaced but I feel that the dealership is forcing me into a corner.

If you couldnt inspect the car you really should not have taken delivery of it.

Lesson for the future. Take a decent torch and dont use that dealer again.
