There's another thread where someone didn't read the t&cs. So they tapped a car decided it wasn't worth reparing their own car but the other party claimed etc. etc..

So 3 months down the line their insurer sent a bill for £3000 as the excess payment.

Turns out the insurance was cheap because of the excess but t&cs said it was applicable to 3rd party claims as well.

    oops!

    Indeed!

That was the most recent thread I read which had this advice,
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4319167

but I have seen other earlier threads also advising, incorrectly it appears, that "There is no excess on 3rd party claims"

It's where the Editor in Chief & founder of this site suggested I start!

So you are saying esure only offer fully comp cover?

Maybe I should start another thread asking why to insurers ask what level of cover you want when they only offer one level of cover?

Just be sure of your facts in the first place.

    Go to the horse's mouth.

For starters neither sw nor esure do third party!

No, I worked out your riddles on who you were taking your facts from and edited my mistake.

Check direct to get the correct facts.

    Esure only offer comprenensive cover!

They say this on their quote form at the start before you fill in the quote application:
We provide comprehensive car insurance only.

That method of insurance is, fortunately, quite unique.

The OP said - why it is that more often than not it seems third party only insurance policies quote an excess?

Having an excess on TP claims is far from the norm. Most of those listed in post # 5 are brokers, not insurers. If they can arrange TP only cover with an excess they may all be using the same insurer.

No, Third Party Only (not TPFT)

Here's a few of the insurers that quote an excess:

    Shielas Wheels
    esure
    autonet
    One Call
    Flux Direct
    iGo4
    The Policy Shop
    From Sheilas Wheels website FAQs

    Do you offer non-comprehensive insurance?
Currently we only offer comprehensive cover policies.
