Third party insurance and the excess

Could anyone explain why, if as I read so often on this board that excesses do not usually apply to third party claims, why it is that more often than not it seems third party only insurance policies quote an excess?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking ...0

Are you sure its not third party fire and theft policies you are looking at? They may have a fire or theft excess.
Which insurer are you looking at?0 -
No, Third Party Only (not TPFT)
Here's a few of the insurers that quote an excess:
Shielas Wheels
esure
autonet
One Call
Flux Direct
iGo4
The Policy Shop0 -
When i used to insure my cars TPFT only. There was never
any policy excess. Except for fire and theft.
Seems this is a newish thing and looking at that list. Not companies i would use anyway.
So is that excess payable by you if a 3rd party claims from you?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Are you sure of your facts?
(eg For starters, you cannot buy third party only (or TPFT) from sheila wheels or esure, so they are wrongly in your list)0 -

Well. the data you give is wrong (for starters as far as SW and esure go)!
(The owner of this site isn't the authority to go to get this kind of correct data from in the first place!)0 -
It's where the Editor in Chief & founder of this site suggested I start!
So you are saying esure only offer fully comp cover?
Maybe I should start another thread asking why to insurers ask what level of cover you want when they only offer one level of cover? :cool:0 -
There's another thread where someone didn't read the t&cs. So they tapped a car decided it wasn't worth reparing their own car but the other party claimed etc. etc..
So 3 months down the line their insurer sent a bill for £3000 as the excess payment.
Turns out the insurance was cheap because of the excess but t&cs said it was applicable to 3rd party claims as well.
oops!0
