petrol stations

the extra pennys' not going to do much to the cash in your pocket but it'll make a difference to the profits of the petrol companys if it's happening to most customers, i've started putting £19.99 or £39.99 and put the penny in the charity box.:T0

I've noticed that for most of this year it's been near impossible to put the exact mount of petrol in your car, it's always £20.01 or £40.01. The gauge goes £19.95..96..97..98..99....20.01. I thought it was me but it happens to loads of people i know .
Doesen't happen to me.
If your big sausage fingers are causing so much problems dispensing fuel at the pump then why not just get as close to whatever note you wish to spend?
ie If you have a tenner just get to £9.89 or whatever, even you should be able to judge this.
Why could you not solve this issue yourself?:(0 -
Its happened to me once. But on every other occasion I have managed to have a nice round figure, usually £20 or £30. I stop the pump as it gets to the 99p mark, I guess my delay ups it by that 1p to round it off for me.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

A good trick if you hit say £20.01, give the cashier £30 and say you have no change.
9 times out of 10 the cashier will give you pay the £10 note, although you get the odd silly cashier giving you pay £9.99 in coinage
Silly cashier? It's their job to be accurate, as much as 10p out on a till is enough to get you in trouble at some places. Suggest they're silly for doing there job is borderline moronic.

I have known some petrol stations leave a small tray of pennies on the counter. That way, if you go a penny over, you can grab one of the pennies, and the money in the till still adds up right at the end of a shift. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
similar story on watchdog - people were putting correct amount in and then it was going up a penny when they put it back. They said it was due to rounding the decimal places up.0

Not found this problem myself. Use Pay at Pump though so wouldn't matter anyway. Surprised by how many people queue up to pay when it's so much quicker to do it yourself.0

Irritatingly you can't use discount coupons such as those Tesco give at the pump so it maybe quicker but is also more expensive.0 -
On the subject of fuel, why is it the only thing that is ever sold at .9 instead of being rounded up. Why not say 64p instead of 63.9 just because it sounds cheaper. You cannot possibly pay .9p.
Imagine Tesco pricing biscuits at 34.9p a packet. Why do petrol stations manage to do it?0
