Bear in mind that as you are the legal owner of the car, it would be insurance fraud to register your dad as the owner of the car. It is known as fronting and if you get caught, you will struggle to get any insurance in the future.

You can be the policy holder (dad) with yourself as a named driver.(and registered keeper)
Myself and my husband both do this with two insurances (sheilas wheels i am the policy holder and he is my spouse) for an Audi registered to him.
He is the policy holder for the VW which is registered in my name. ( Barclays ins)
  • I spent about 2 months delving into young drivers insurance for my son. I am a named driver on my OH policy and we purchased a second run around for two purposes , me to use during the day and son to use evenings and weekends.

I am the registered keeper and insurance policy is in my name but as I knew son would be using it for more driving hours per week declared him as the "main" driver.

Direct line picked up my 5 years NCD from other policy I am named on and son is earning his own on this policy. If he chooses to stay with direct line he can use his bonus if he goes elsewhere he cant [ nothing to do with DL, other companies wont acknowledge this and take it on].

Whatever, whereever he goes one or two years down the line he will find greatly reduced premiums with or without using this discount, getting on the first step is the hardest but HONESTY at all times is priority.

You also mentioned modifications ?? cosmetic only when I asked, any thing to do with performance is a no no for now !!

Ringing and discussing is far better than going online, online didnt pick my 5 year bonus up, or give me the chance to iron any wrinkles out.

DL asked lots of questions and one of the first was "who is the vehicle registered to "

My son is only just 17 and our policy came out at £800 fully comp including a years breakdown cover, excess is £600 though !!

Friends have used Quinn, who have been just as helpful
