If you were in the wrong then do the honourable thing and pay up, what is the point in being a pedantic twerp.

If on the otherhand you believe you were not in the wrong then take the appeal all the way, most if not all councils will reject any appeal formal or not as they just want you to cough up.

Merry Christmas by the way :D
I think that paying under protest is a perfectly valid thing to do, and does not mean you are a twerp (haven't heard that term for a long time!).

Bury council have quite a reputation in this way of parking enforcement, As I understand they do not even turn up at the appeal process, How much Local taxpayers money is this costing.
Anyway my original post was to seek the validity of paying by multiple cheques.

You haven't said whether you have actually appealed.

Did you know that MOST PEOPLE WIN in the end who appeal further than the first challenge (which is usually rejected 'because they can and they want the money')?

Pepipoo can help you to appeal and almost everyone there pays NOTHING in the end because they take the appeal further, with advice:

I post on pepipoo as SchoolRunMum and (apart from one case with an Excess Charge which is different, and which I advised the poster to pay!) I can't remember the last person who lost at adjudication appeal, it's so rare. I would not pay ANY Council parking penalty charge without appealing all the way to adjudication, even if I was bang to rights! But in your case you say the signage was unclear - have you appealed then? It is not a waste of time.

  • Yes, Ive done both an informal and formal appeal, which have both been rejected. I am quite confident of winning a full appeal, but really I want to avoid the hassle of a hearing.

You don't really have an option as the next step is either pay or go to the adjudicator , if the latter get the advice needed from pepipoo.com

We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

What?! You have got to the stage where the discount is NOT applicable then surely? And you don't have to attend a hearing - you can opt for postal adjudication and it will cost you no more if unsuccessful. And you've already written your appeal wording so it would be easy.

The amount will not go up but I can't see why it's still being offered at £25 - are you certain the discount has been re-offered yet again? What's not to like about appealing by post once more, you may pay nothing? Get pepipoo help asap.

Yes I have the letter. it states that the discounted fee of £25 is still applicable until 14 days from 19th Dec.

If I beleived I had done wrong.I would have paid striaght away. But I had bought a ticket, from a machine less than 10ft from my car, unfortunately, as it turns out it was for a different car park, although there were no signs iand no barriers ndicating this! I am not in the habit or avoiding my responsibilities, but I think this is grossly unfair!

On the occasions where I have heard of this being attempted, the multiple cheques are binned and the full fine imposed, followed by a Bailiff who will only take cash. You'll just be shooting yourself in the foot - same if you tried to pay with a wheelbarrow of 1p coins. It's not legal tender.
