USB stick not playing on tv.

Dear all,
I have transferred a lot of home movies 'vhs' to my pc and saved files on a usb stick expecting to play it on my tv 'sony bravia'.
The tv shows all what has been saved but says that playback not available.
Question is what do I do to play it back on my tv, playing it on pc is fine.
thanks
sebastian

Most tv should be able to play DiVX

to be honest the best way is to convert them to dvd (VOB) format.

VSO's DivX2Dvd is good, I used that before I paid for their pro version

You haven't said what kind of file you saved them as.
What kind of files does your TV manual say it can play?
  • Chances are the videos are in the wrong file format for your TV. When playing videos on my TV (an E-motion something or other no brand from Sainsbury's a few years back) I use MP4 and MPEG-4 (FFmpeg) and output options when I encode thing and it works fine. I expect other TVs will take it too.

I use Handbrake (available with a quick google) to encode and it's pretty good, if a little confusing when you first look at it. There is a good quide on the makers website and I'm sure there are guides on Youtube if you need more help.
  • I think this is a typical problem with Sony televisions not liking media files in certain formats.
Sony have introduced "homestream" to try and resolve this.
It is a download from Sony,it shares info from computer to tv,no need for usb stick, computer would have to be left on though.

I looked for the tv manual but could not find it, all i know is it is Sony Bravia 40 inch. To my way of thinking Sony cater for all formats. I have not been able to play mp3 files either. I am just stuck. I can access my pc files from tv through a router, the pupose of the usb was so that I can play it on someone else tv/pc.
    thank you for the help.

FWIW my Sony Bravia will play both MP3 and MP4 (H264) from a flash drive without any problems.

    what model?
  • Don't Sony print the model number on a label on the back of the set?

(I haven't been looking at TVs for a while, so I can't remember if that's the case.)
