Christmas Eve bargains

in Gone off!
Evening all - my local Morrisons is closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day. I intend going in on Christmas Eve to see if there are any bargains to be had. How long before closing time would you suggest going in, I know sometimes these things are pot luck on being there at the right time, but was thinking of a couple of hours before closing?
Will update on Monday on if I manage to get any bargains. Would love to hear of everyone elses food bargains too.

Good luck, Morries can be excellent if you time it right.
Check the deli counter, they really cleared stuff last year and just gave as much as you wanted of each cooked meat for 45p or 49p.
I think sprouts etc went for 5p, obviously store specific.
I'm actually giving it a miss and waiting until the New Year for Xmas cakes etc.
Anyone gambling for late Xmas Day meat bargains??

So weird, I was talking to my friend who works in Mr t's about this today!
She said in her store the last reductions will start getting done about 5pm (store closes at 7pm on Christmas eve). She said they had a few cages of party food through the back still to be put on the shelves. Last night there was loads of the party food for 50p each. I'm hoping that it will be the same on Monday night, they have two dates of food to get rid of as they are closed Boxing day as well.
Planning on organising my freezer tomorrow so I can roughly gauge how much stuff I can buy :rotfl:Can't think of anything smart to put here...0 -
2 - 3 hours before close can be good any day of the week so i am guessing tomorrow will mean the same.
If you can't be bothered cooking meats, the cooked meats can be very cheap. easily cut up and served cold.
i won't be there as i will be in the boozer with pals as per tradition0 -
I have all the meats I need, got a meat hamper from the butcher, so just looking for odds and ends really.
Had a little trip to Morrisons this morning, it was open at 9 but they couldn't start serving till 10. I only had a few things, but by the time I was leaving just after 10, the shop was really busy, the queues had already started to filter down into the aisles.0 -
It might just be reflection on where I live, but in recent years the pickings have become so poor locally that I've stopped bothering.with my festive Xmas eve vulture impersonation.
Perhaps supermarkets are getting better at planning how much stock they need?0 -

I love the Christmas Eve bargain run. I don't depend on it for Christmas food, I've got that sorted, but in past years I've bought enough meat, cheese and other delicacies to last me well into January, with a bit of creative freezing. My OH came in on Christmas Eve one year to find me dismembering one of these huge turkeys that no-one wants because it won't fit into any known domestic oven. I turned into two half-crown roasts, enough diced meat for month of curries, escalopes and two huge tubs of jellied stock. It cost me £2.
The cats appreciate a nive bit of Christmas salmon too, and cheese, cream and party food all freeze. Veg keeps for longer than you might think in this weather. I've got a small second freezer and a very small but very useful second fridge standing empty. Bring on the bargains!
(I find 2-3 hours before closing is about right for time...)Val.0 -
Yes I can't wait, I will be joining in this year. I will be heading to Mr T's meat section.
Anybody else? Where will you be going?
As always cutting back not cutting out.0 -
Will be heading to Asda at around 3-4pm. Didn't manage to get much last year except for sausage meat, but that came in useful. Hopefully this year I'll get lucky! There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0

I visited three supermarkets today for just whoopsies and didn't find one so I hope tomorrow I will have better luck. Already got my christmas food in just looking for extra things for the freezer and veg that will keep for a while. Last year I bought loads of potatoes that were still okay in June. Mind you we didn't have so much rain last year! Happy bargain hunting -lets see who can get the most percent off!0
