I wouldn't worry - I used to kill my Pippa doll in the bath so I could float her on a sponge with a flannel over her as a Viking funeral (without the flames, I hasten to add). I stopped when I was, oh, 32 or 33 ..."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

On the other hand, I've always understood that having an overprotective mother was one of defining characteristics of sociopaths.

When I was about 7 I hung my teddy out of our sash window, because he had done some thing bad (can't remember what now, he may just have looked at me in a funny way). Proper hanging, noose around the neck type, dangling from the bedroom window.
I left him there to 'teach him a lesson', but then forgot about him and he got all wet in the rain and went mouldy! I was inconsolable when my mum threw this soggy mouldy mess in the bin.
I'm sure it was a valuable life lesson for me. I certainly never hang any of my teddy bears out of the window now......0 -
If you think that by the age of 8 he hasn't experienced "pretend violence" you must be keeping him away from all other children.
What do you think they play at school? Your son's TV diet may be restricted - I've no doubt other children at school are watching all sorts of things.
If he acts things out, it's play and an important part of growing up. If you find him pulling the legs off spiders and torturing next door's cat, ask for an appointment with the EdPsych.0 -

Traditional childhood games - that was a favourite game when my granny was young - in the early 1900s
OP, he's 8. Not much longer and he won't want to even admit to owning a teddy.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I think kids have always been a bit violent - throughout the ages they've played cowboys and indians, war games, battle games etc, etc.
It's just what kids do

You found nearly £60on your street?! Do you live on Oxford Street?
Back to the point, chgrist, seems there's a lot of nutters on here! Did anyone NOT torture a toy when they were a kid on here?
To the OP, agree with everyone else, dont think you need to worry just yet.0 -
He's watching Merlin. Monkey see, monkey do..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Way to go on the parenting skills.
You see him holding he dagger and immediately jump to a conclusion and start giving him crap about how the teddy would feel blah blah.
You should have shown a genuine interest in him and the activity he has undertook, indicating innocence to it all, to try and find out what it is he is actually doing. BEFORE making him feel guilty.0 -
That reminds me when my DD was about 4 - she had two or three friends around to play, all the dolls out over the floor, happily doing something. The mums came to pick up, and I looked more closely to see what they were doing -they were busy cooking Barbie on the toy barbeque!0
