I wouldn't complain to anyone, it's the OP's mistake. Just accept it and make sure it doesn't happen again.

It would be worth asking Tesco for a goodwill gesture, but they don't have to refund the charges as it's not their fault. Plus if you always pay in full, they're not making any money out of you so might just take this opportunity to do so.
I don't think they do goodwill - I made a mistake and missed a payment date and they charged me a fee.
  • its right they do not usually do goodwill but when they are faced with good longstanding customers they can and do refund charges, good customers are what they want to keep. after all we all make mistakes in life but make sure you dont make it again.
nothing wrong in asking, if they say yes great, if they say no at least you tried.

Tesco recently changed their sort code and account details and sent out a letter advising as to the change. I changed the payment details at my First Direct account but missed out 1 digit from the card number as a reference causing the payment to be returned. When I noticed I rang Tesco Bank as I was 1 day late and they are charging me £46 interest and late payment fee which they refuse to waive . I think this is ridiculous as I always pay in full and on time. Has anybody had a similar issue ???

I also have tesco debit and pay it online by first directory

tried setting up a new payment using the new account details but first direct kept refusing the account number as tesco is already in their system

tried several times and just about gave up when I noticed fd had already changed my tesco payment setting to the new account number

prior to that I did make payment few days late and they billed me £40 - I phoned up to have it removed but she refused

I told her to cancel my card to which she suggested i set up a dd to pay in full automatically at the end of the month and she would waive te fee

told her "what if I decide to buy a car and use the credit" so then she suggested I set up a dd just to cover mini um payment- that way I still can't forget altoghther so wont incure anymore late fees and can still use credit if I want it and she will waive my £40 fee

    "deal" I said

You see i disagree. I think there IS something wrong in asking when it's your mistake.

Still worth complaining in writing as nothing more than the price of a stamp and 10 mins of your time to lose and £50+ to gain. When you called you spoke to the monkey not the organ grinder

Why waste the cost of a stamp and paper.....

ALL complaints have to be logged and reported no matter how they come in.
If the OP refuses to allow the call center to close the complaint, it will be refered to their complaint team. They then have 8 weeks to resolve this. If not you can go to FOS. Given a £750 charge, Odds on you will get hte money back.
If they close the complaint or fail to log it. That is a nasty fine for them.

Firstly, the FOS 'case fee' is £500 isn't it?

Secondly, this fee is only charged if the case is referred to a FOS adjudicator. Bearing in mind only 1 in 6 complaints are referred to an adjudicator (the other 5 are dealt with by their frontline staff), and the fact that it's clearly the OP's fault, there is no potential for a £500 case fee to be charged in this case.

Best not to build the OP's hopes up. ;)

    Nope its gone up

It covers every case that gets as far as FOS.

Most banks will not let it go if its less than the cost.
Even when you know it will win
