As it's only the DVD side of the combo that's not working, why not keep hold of it until after Christmas and the new year and then take it back to Tesco.
That way, your mum will still have TV to watch.
This will also give you time to see if you could get hold of a loaner tv whilst the repair is being carried out.
It might also be an idea to run a DVD head cleaner and see if this helps.0
