Ok, I'm going to email the seller. How does this sound? Don't be scared to tell me if it's not ok, I hate doing this kind of thing.

Hiya, just to let you know the bag arrived safely, thank you.

I have to say though that I was just a little surprised at the condition considering you auctioned it as 'brand new'. It stunk of cigarette smoke, there was a couple of (very) small slightly dirty areas on it (almost as if a little food or something had been dropped on it at one time perhaps?), the bottom of it had darkened at the corners like it would after it had been used and put down on something, and there were very fine crumbs and a few small hairs inside it which I don't think would be there if the bag was brand new.

Don't get me wrong, I like the bag and I can easily hoover it out and I expect the faint dirty areas will wipe so I'm not looking to return it, but I only bid on this bag because it was described as new, which it clearly isn't. It looks as though it has been used, even if only once.

I don't want to be unfair to you but I'd be interested in your response before I leave feedback?

    Thanks

I feel bad writing this because the things are only small and I only paid a fiver so I'm not fussed about the cost. I just think she shouldn't have described it as new? Am I being too pedantic?

Maybe I'll just not bother and I wont leave feedback at all. :o

I had something similar happen fairly recently. Bought a T-shirt based on the description and when it turned up it was similar but different to the one i wanted. For the cost of the item (£3 inc postage) i wasn't that fussed but emailed the seller as he still had several other t-shirts of the same style for sale just to let him know about the discrepancy.

In the end he refunded me and because of the way he dealt with things i still left him a positive.

Not too pedantic at all, and a very nice letter in the circumstances

I'd wait for them to post their feedback first!

I think thats a fair message to send, if they are new to selling hopefully they will learn to be more accurate in their descriptions and you are also giving them the chance to put their mistake right.

The only change I'd make to your message (and now I'm being pedantic) is to put "smelt" of cigarettes instead of stunk.
  • I think the message sounds fine. A decent seller would be very apologetic and offer some kind of refund.
