stopping Bluetooth auto scan

My Android automatically scans for Bluetooth devices, then it says 'can't connect due to password'. I do want to connect it to a device I have a password for but it does not ask me for it.
Am I doing something wrong?
any help most appreciated.

    Is the target device discoverable?

Is it showing in the list of discovered devices?

Help us as many viewers are not mind readers, which handset do you have? as Android is an operating sytem used by various brands.

It is an Android 4.06 dual core, is not branded. It discovers all devices, WiFi, Bluetooth etc. With some devices it connects automatically, I just want the opportunity to connect it to the one I want, that is a handsfree set.

So if it is an unbranded device, it could be like the tablets where they can run android, but are not strictly speaking android devices.
It is the way the device you have adopts various BT profiles where the problem could be, sadly I don't know of a resolve.
Usually you set the headset to discoverable and then get the handset to look for the accesory, the pin can vary but is often 0000 or 1234 .

Do you have an option within each device's entry to disable auto-connection? If so, you may need to disable auto-connection for all other devices to allow you to select the one you want to connect.

If i was given a choice, i would not have asked the question. I have been looking at the available APPS and I think that will resolve it. Yes the password for the 'hands free' is 0000.
The software version is 4.0.9, i have had branded phones but this one is more exciting, and I like it very much.
    Many thanks for your help.

Well I'm not a mind reader, and it's something easily overlooked.

I hope you find the solution.

  • Have you tried plugging it into a Windows computer to see if any info about the phone can be detected (through device manager or driver settings)? Windows might state - Installing ??? Device.

Have you also tried it with Samsung Kies, Nokia Suite, etc to see if they can detect it?

Also, does its settings not have a Bluetooth Settings on it or something that implies WiFi Settings, Connection, etc? I know they sound obvious but sometimes you can be looking at the setting you want but do not recognise it for what it is as the Label/Description is confusing.

  • What about taking the back off? Is there a label or code behind the battery compartment?
