A Christmas present from Flogas

A letter from Flogas arrived in the post today. It said:
“The average wholesale price of LPG, as published at the end of November, has risen since your current price was established. This unavoidable rise in the cost of product, combined with increases in refinery and transportation costs, means we are now applying an increase of 3.90 pence per litre to your existing LPG price. We appreciate the difficulty that price increases have on our customers and that is why we have limited the refinery and transportation element of the increase to 0.5 pence per litre, absorbing the rest of the costs ourselves.”
In my case it means my price is going to be 58.90 pence per litre. Fortunately my contract with Flogas finishes today.

A friend of mine recently told me that he had noticed that they always say that 'the price will rise by X ppl' but they never state the actual price as everyone pays a different rate!!

Hello all,
Happy and warm 2013 to you all
I have just found this discussion forum and I am intrigued
I am currently with Flo gas for another 12 months contract
My price is presently .49 per litre ( I use about 3000 to 4000 litres per year) but I suspect a letter will be arriving any time soon. I am considering looking around for alternative suppliers in South Wales but I have two questions
At the bottom of every Flo gas statement it states that the tank is the property of Flo gas. Am I able to change supplier without changing the tank ?
My Worcester High Flow 350 boiler is coming up for replacent after 20 years. Should I stick with LPG or change to oil for my next boiler ?
Best wishes

Once out of contract yes, you can change. Your new supplier takes over the present tank.
From what i have heard, you need to get as far away as possible from Flo gas, Pick a local company.
I Changed my boiler recently, i stopped with LPG.0 -

When I last looked the oil boilers were £1K dearer than the lpg ones, so, do the sums!
And also factor in the cost of a new oil tank0 -
I ditched LPG and switched to oil and have never looked back.
On a like-for-like basis per kw/h the running cost of an oil system will be lower. However the installation costs are certainly higher primarily because of the cost of the oil tank. But once installed there is obviously no standing charge as there is for LPG. Similarly oil boilers do need servicing every year whilst in theory LPG ones do not but in my book it's good practice to have any boiler serviced annually to save problems down the line.
You'll need to do the sums and figure out if the break-even point is worth it. In my scenario I calculated that after about 4 years I will work off the additional costs and then essentially I will benefit from the lower heating costs.0
