Mr BE
thats a great plant, distilled water/rain water is perfect for them, same reason they need peat, they get all their nutrients from the bugs and not the soil or water like other plantsTrying to get on top of finances one step at a time0 -
wow green fingered or what. Never knew they could flower, plant looks amazing0

I can never get them to last either. Morrissons have had them, along with other carnivorous plants for £1.99 a throw. Bought the last one in Sept/October did not last to December. Watered it with boiled water too. It was doing well until I went on holiday for a week and the house-sitter did not water.0

I think you should.I was given that one as a house-warming present 3 years ago. It's one of few plants I've actually managed to keep alive. I believe they should be kept cooler (e.g outside) in the winter, when they die back. I've never bothered though, and it seems ok. Keep the water dish filled to maintain humidity around the plant. As previously mentioned, they like soft water (i.e. rainwater). It's in a peat / sand mix, as they are happy with a poor-quality substrate. Oh, and don't monkey around with it (i.e. triggering the traps to watch them close); they don't like it.
That's about all I know.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I read somewhere that flowering weakens the plant although MRBADEXAMPLE's seems to be doing great going by the pics. You should get more plants from the seed produced from the flowers,I'm not sure but think you might have to pollinate each flower using a cotten bud to get the seed.
Great stuff.0 -
My daughter bought one of these from the Harrogate flower show at the weekend. Will remember to tell her all your tips. Thanks.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0

http://www.cp-forum.net/ Carnivorous plants forum - folks on here sell plants
I get a rail forum??
I have a facination with carnivorous plants. My all time favourite is a Darlingtonia aka Cobra Lily which catches wasps. Brilliant in the kitchen. Similar growing conditions to the venus fly trap. Sarracenias are also prolific fly catchers and easy to grow. They all like lime free water.Debbie0
