What a damp old day it is. Although it seems to have temporarily stopped raining, but they weathergirl says there is more to come.

At 9am this morning I was in the local M&S collecting the turkey, paid for by my M&S premium club vouchers earned throughout the year. It was quite calm in the collection area, but the food section looked like it was already rammed with people.

Fortunately, I didn't have to get any other food there, as I had my grocery delivery at 11am. so that's it, we now have food which will last into the new year (possibily new year 2014!)

Also, have been ironing and did a batch of mince pices.

I'm just relaxing for a while now. After two busy days at work my back is aching, and the busy morning hasn't helped.

Hope nobody is affected by the flooding - the west country looks bad at the moment

    Hi all.

    Hoppy Birdday Islandmaid.
Waiting for daylight so I can go get soaked walking Luna. It's her 1st birthday today :j my little fur baby is growing up :rotfl:
Oh bless! Hoppy Birdday Luna and a lick from Dave - he'll have to stretch up to administer it though, he's so tiny!:D

DG It's not just a question of getting a boiler and getting someone in; although, Mr LW phoned at least half a dozen numbers before he found someone who could even come out and look this side of Xmas. I also had to work out how to finance the replacement (this I have successfully done, playing a bit of piggery-jokery with our finances); the other thing is Mr LW has to arrange to wfh the day they come to do the work. I have MH issues that mean I cannot cope with having men in my house when I'm here on my own; so he'll have a word with his boss on Monday, and say that he has a domestic crisis that requires him to be home Thursday; he'll either wfh, or take a day's unpaid leave, or take a day's leave from 2013's allowance - their choice. If they've any sense, they'll opt for him wfh, as he can still do his job, but just not be on site.

We're managing - the gas fire in the lounge works, and I generally leave the internal doors open in any case as I can't operate the door knobs without pain, so that's ok. It's the morning bath that's most difficult; the towels don't dry properly, and Mr LW has to remember to get up and switch on the immersion; we have a portable fan heater that he puts in the bathroom (ssh don't tell the elf'n'safety people). so we have some warmth in there while we bathe.

Thankfully we don't have visitors over the holiday period, other than my canine guests, so it's just us to bother about. I have a couple of microwaveable wheaten bags I can use to keep my feet warm, which is the only other issue. I tried socks, but was nearly crying with the pain in my feet within an hour, so that's a non-starter.

It was very disappointing to have our Yule celebrations ruined though - this is the same to me as having Xmas Day turned upside down would be to the majority of posters here.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • Islandmaid Happy birthday honey, hope you get spolied.
Just had a nice visit from eldest DD Shelley, she is looking so much better, and for once is taking care of herself after her big op.I made her favourite Melting Moments biscuits and she really appreciated them and a large pot of coffee to go with them.:D
LameWolf its definitely the wrong time of the year for things to go wrong with the heating system I do hope you can get it sorted without too much trouble and your OH can be at home to help.

I have my stairlift being fitted on the 4th January and I'm really looking forward to it as it will make life so much easier and safer.:j
Tomorrow youngest DD Tessa and I are going to do her 'big shop' so she won't have to go out over the following week with luck.I hate to think what the shops will be like:eek: but we are going as early as we can and will get a coffee once we have got parked up as the shops will be on Sunday opening. I think Sainsbobs may be opening a little earlier for 'browsers' which will help.
I just hang on the the trolley:D and Tessa whizzs around getting all the bits and bobs. She has to work today although I can't see many folk looking for a rental the Saturday before Christmas (unless its a manger in a stable :):):))
Monday morning I shall be making all the sausage rolls for my two DDs and their families I always do this every year and quite enjoy it as I have my beloved Radio Four on whilst I'm baking and the house smells lovely
I got a nice card this morning from my niece in Mexico City and she put the english translation on the blank side as I don't speak spanish. She has lived out there since 1974 after marrying a lawyer, Carlos who is a lovely chap and adores her.Her two sons are totally bi-lingual which is good as one is a chef and the other a lawyer like his Dad.
My family are scattered in all four corners of the world but its still nice to be remembered
Right I'm off to get a nice cuppa
Have a good afternoon all and keep warm if you can
    Cheers JackieO xxx

LW. I know it is not easy for you, and wondered if you had considered this.

As it is not more than an Gas boiler maintenance contract.

That's it I'm all done in, been woken by DGD2, aged 3, at 5.15 then DD gave me the pleasure of having DGD3, aged 14mths, for a "couple" of hours at 10.30 so she could do some wrapping. At 3pm I asked if I could drop them home because I still had so much to do as we have 9 coming to us for the day tomorrow at 9am. She asked if we could drop them at their Grans, DD's OH's Mum. 'rolls eyes' !!
I absolutely love having DGD's but today was pushing my time to the limit. :o
DH and I then had to go shopping for last minute things, it wasn't as busy as I thought it might have been, didn't want to venture out at all as it's not stopped raining here for days, again the roads are like rivers.
Think a long hot soak with a glass of wine is in order. ;)
Hope you're all going to have a good Christmas. :A

I went to Mr T's to get petrol this morning at 7, I decided I NEEDED a cauliflower, so went in, bought potatoes, parsnips & a cauli, it was busy with the people packing up orders for delivery, but the tills were fairly quiet.
Went out again at midday to get stuff for the fish tank, but hopefully won't need to go out again.
The weather here is atrocious, rain all day varying from heavy to very heavy.
Tomorrow I'm making brownies, palmiers & shortbread for hubby.
LW, what a pain in the b*m, hope you get it sorted soon.
    Have a good evening everyone.
    Hugs Hester
